The class system is a joke and an excuse. I have seen 2A beat 4A, 4A beat 6A, ... and so on. Being in a different class does not give you any entitlement. I am not going to get into the public/private debate. that's a whole different ball of wax.

Highlands, Ryle, Ballard, and Hardin are all public schools. When is the last time you have seen a highest class champion beaten by a lower class champion? The last time I remember it was Highlands beatin Male in 98.

Why does it have to be a case of champion versus champion? Last I checked we were talking about JH, Ballard and Bell. I don't buy into the "because we are 5A we are better than you" mentality as you mentioned.

However, that doesn't lead them to being better than a 5a and a 6a school that have one another as their only losses.

As for this year, I will take Bell's power, extremely fast tailback and experience over team speed and upper class rating.

Like I said, I agree with JH. I don't think Bell would beat Highlands, Ryle, or Ballard. I bought out the champion vs. champion because at the top of the classes, school size often makes a difference. I think the three teams that I just mentioned would beat Bell because of greater team speed. Highlands and Ryle are both fast at multiple positions, and both have powerful offensive lines. Also, I still don't understand why many people from that area of the state seem to think that Highlands is a private school.

And it has nothing to do with class. Just the fact of me picking the better team. As far as the champion versus champion thing. I just don't see it as a huge deal in HS football. HSF is so cyclical that it's almost pointless to compare this years team to last years. Just because you beat last years champion doesn't mean you beat this years champion. Nor does it make you a champion. It's just a game.

No they are not. They are a public independent.

NO didn't mean it that way. Meant to THANK YOU for clarifying my own mistake. Trust me, I am not throwing punches at Highlands. One of the elite programs in this state. However, I do not agree that a Bell County is not a better team (this season) than a Ryle, John Hardin, and Ballard.

They definitely haven't over-scheduled. That should be obvious with a 39-1 regular season record for this Senior class. But heck they got a 9-1 playoff record through last week. Pretty darn good. I know as underclassmen very few had little to do with those records, but it's a team game. Each class should come in and try to leave it better than they got it. Look at 2008 on KHSAA they dang near blanked everyone up to the regional championship, then won the close games to get the title. So while they didn't have the toughest regular season schedule then either, they still found ways to win.

Covington Catholic beat St. Xavier in the 1999 season opener ... the biggest shock, looking back at it, was that CovCath was beaten in the first round of the 3A playoffs.

But you're saying they would "smoke" some of the higher-ranked 5A and 6A teams in other parts of the state, and they're not playing any of those teams.
