RivalsHigh.com ranks the 50 states for overall depth and quality of HS Football

Ohio is better overall, no doubt, as are many states.

KY's top three or four teams would easily compete in their respective divisions in Ohio.

In the past 15 years, Highlands, Boyle, Trinity, St. X, Cov. Cath and several others would have won at the very least one, if not more than that, state championships in Ohio.

Highlands 1998 team would have destroyed any team in any class in Ohio that year.

I'm actually trying to defend your program, so sorry. It's 4 and I know at least 3 are starters and one is one of your best defenders. That is 4 more than most other NKY teams and some years it is more and some years less but generally HHS always has players from outside of Ft. Thomas on the team. Generally speaking they are better than average players and generally most NKY teams don't have that luxuary. Anyway it's no where near the luxuary of the GCL schools or even Colerain just from a numbers perspective.

Actually of the 4, one (starter) is out for the season. Of the three left only one is a starter for sure.

If T, X, & HHS played the last 40-50 years in Ohio, I would think T would have maybe 4 titles, maybe 2 for X, and maybe 1 for HHS. Note those were all maybes. OH is just overall better. The Moeller teams of the 80's would put a running clock on the KY teams of that era. Having said that, T will be as good or better than every team in OH each of the next 2 years.

I would think 4 out of 80 plus is probably in line with the top programs in NKY and that doesn't take into account who we've lost to NCC but that happens to all public.

Playing in their proper class those teams would have done quite well I believe.

That's just silly. The 1988 & 89 Trinity teams were virtually unbeatable and nationally ranked. Highlands 98 and 07 teams were two of the best that have ever been seen in KY. Last year, Ohio threw its best at what was a good, but not one of the greatest Highlands teams, complete with a national #1 ranking, and got smacked and sent home with their tail between their legs.

Do not mistake OVERALL quality as opposed to top echelon quality. KY's best are every bit, and sometimes better, than Ohio's. Now below that elite line of 4 or 5 teams, Ohio rules the roost.

That great St. X team from Ohio lost in the second round of the playoffs. Hardly great...

And yet good enough to pound the 2 Louisville powers.

T's 50 game win streak would never have made it to even 20 games in OH, IMHO. And understand that I support T. But playing Moeller, Cincy X, Elder and Colerain is a little different than playing Seneca, Doss, DeSales, & Ballard. Heck Holy Cross (I believe) ended the streak! How would Holy Cross fare in Cincinnati, let alone all of Ohio?! T would be lucky to make it out of the Cincinnati area 6-8 times in the last 50 years and maybe get 4 titles (less for the other KY schools). Of course, this is all IMVHO.

(And T might be the best team in all of KY, OH & IN for the next couple of years!)

Nearly 800 football teams in Ohio to roughly 300 in Kentucky.

300...How bout 220? Thats almost 4 times as many teams... Like others have said though, it's the largeest class with St X, Elder, Moeller, etc that stick out...The rest of the divisions could be competed with very well....Sure they have more good teams, but, with 4 x's the #, that should be expected...

Kentucky is about where I'd expect them to be. I dunno much about Tenessee football but other than that I'd say KY as a whole is probably not as good as most of it's surrounding states.

KY doesn't even begin to be able to compare, and in most cases compete with the likes of teams from CA, AL, TX, PA, FL, OH. I think most school in the 15-35 is a toss up, but KY is always going to suffer because we don't really have any big schools when you're comparing them to those other top tier states.

Who does Trinity have in week 1 (not week 0)?

-CF

Still waiting on an answer to my question. Anyone know?

Highlands ... just one title? Playing in Division III, or whichever one they would be placed in on enrollment?

I have a hard time believing that.

Yet the same number of classes...........

Great post History, beat me to it. It went ignored, but it is the elephant in the room. Ohio has nearly triple the teams of Kentucky, and yet they have the same number of classes for football??
