November 14, 201015 yr Author It's called the Bowden Rule. The Gator Bowl took a 6-6 Florida State team last year because it was Bobby Bowden's last game. They jumped four teams to get them there. It can be done. Bowls are going to take who they want, regardless of records and sometimes, in this case, rules. Sounds like an ACC rule to me.

November 15, 201015 yr If Auburn is in the NC game then that means they beat BAMA which would take them out of the BCS and move LSU in to it.
November 15, 201015 yr ACC gets a BCS bid, likely Va Tech. That leaves #2 to Atlanta for the chicken bowl, most likely Florida State or Miami ACC #6 gets the Music City Bid. That means a toss up between Florida State, North Carolina State, Miami, Maryland, and North Carolina. The three bowls ahead of the Music City are the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando (Acc #3), Sun Bowl (ACC #4), and the Meineke Car Care Bowl (ACC #5). Florida State/Miami to the Champs Bowl. NC State to the Sun Bowl. North Carolina to the Car Care Bowl. That could mean a UK/Maryland matchup in the Music City Bowl. If Georgia Tech beats Georgia and UK loses to Tennessee, the Wreck could be in Nashville as well. There are 70 slots open for bowl games and as of this weekend, there are 54 teams bowl eligible. It's looking like we could very well see teams with losing records in bowl games this year. I would love for the U to get a chance to spank UF in a bowl. I wouldn't even ask Santa for anything else for Christmas.

November 15, 201015 yr I will be floored if two SEC teams don't play in BCS bowls. Auburn will play in the championship game if they keep winning. If they lose to Alabama, but beat South Carolina they will still be in the Sugar Bowl, same for South Carolina if they win the SEC. LSU seems almost a given in the Sugar Bowl if Auburn is in the championship game. I would think the Orange Bowl would also be very interested in either LSU or Alabama when their spot comes up.

As of now, they are close to 20 teams short that are bowl eligible. According to what I've read, bowls must pick all of the bowl eligible teams (i.e. 6-6) first before they can pick a 5-6 or 5-7 team. UK will get into a bowl. But I get the feeling that after this year, UK fans won't be talking down to the Music City Bowl again. I've also read where the Music City Bowl wants Tennessee if they are indeed bowl eligible. UK is option #2 for them.

November 15, 201015 yr Bottom line is this. If both Tennessee and Georgia are bowl eligible, UK is most likely Birmingham bound. And there's a chance it could be against Louisville again since the bowl has a Big East tie in and they are struggling to get teams eligible

UK just needs to beat UT and the season will be a major success. Easier said than done I know.

Given UK and UL play at the same time as the Liberty Bowl, a UK loss likely means a trip to Birmingham. If only one SEC team makes it to a BCS bowl game (i.e. Auburn losing to South Carolina in the SEC title game, then So.Car to the Sugar Bowl), and both Tennessee and Georgia win, UK could be bumped to the status of taking up one of the bids of a conference that can't fill it's slot.

Great. I get to go into schizoid mode, because the BBVA Compass is were USF is projected, regardless of what happens the rest of the season. That's not a bad thing, though, because of the date, January 8th. Just that much more practice time. However, if there aren't enough SEC teams to fill its ninth slot in Birmingham, then the SEC can tell the Liberty Bowl to replace the C-USA champion with the Big East's fifth team. Projections based on that scenario have USF playing Georgia.

Unless the SEC bowl selection rules have changed, a 6-6 Georgia can't get to the Gator over a 7-5 UK and 8-4 Miss St. They are only allowed to skip 1 team. They can't skip both to get to Georgia. So UK doesn't need Ga to lose. UK just needs to win, and hopefully get the nod over MSU. Also where did I say anything about head to head being an advantage? Head to head results do not matter. UK, Auburn, and Tennessee all finished 7-5 last year. Kentucky beat Auburn at Auburn last year and yet, Auburn went to a bowl two tiers above UK. UT went to Atlanta and UK went back to Nashville. Due to a change in NCAA rules last spring. All bowl eligible teams have equal footing now. Beyond the automatic BCS berths, and contractual agreements between bowls and conferences, record has no bearing in bowl placement anymore.
