UK/SEC Bowl Outlook

Featured Replies

This is the basic order of choice. Was surprised the Gator comes in behind the Peach in choice. The absolute best UK can hope for is the Gator. MSU would be the logical choice but if the Cats win out and go 7-5 they would be available as a choice. Would they do like Auburn did last year with the Outback and take a 30,000 ticket allotment to get into the Gator.

Here's my guess...

NC - Auburn

BCS - Bama

Capital One -LSU

Cotton - Arkansas

Outback - Florida

Chic-Fil-a - South Carolina

Gator - Miss State

Music City - Kentucky

Liberty - Georgia

Birmingham - unfilled

Vandy, UT, Ole Miss - Fail to Qualify

I agree with all but these 4

NC- Bama

BCS - Auburn

Music City - Gergia

Liberty - Kentucky

Those choices were toss ups for me. But, being the optimist that I am. I have the Cats going 7-5 and Georgia 6-6.

UGA's needs 2 wins to get to 6-6. Their remaining schedule is Idaho State, Auburn, and Ga Tech. ISU is a gimme. Auburn is a loss. Tech is a toss up.

It is conceivable if UK and UGA both lay eggs down the stretch that the SEC could have 3 unfilled bowls.

Too soon, example, Bama loses to LSU, then Mississipi State, and Auburn. I'll wait a while.

This weekends results require a need to revise.

Head to head results do not matter. UK, Auburn, and Tennessee all finished 7-5 last year. Kentucky beat Auburn at Auburn last year and yet, Auburn went to a bowl two tiers above UK. UT went to Atlanta and UK went back to Nashville.

UK will not beat Tennessee. I don't know why anyone would think otherwise.

How many times have you said this same thing over and over? Once again, Auburn bought their way into the Outback. A smart move on their part. UT was a better fit for the Peach then UK.

There is nothing in the above statement that has anything to do with head to head. In fact, the head to head winner, Miss St would be the one getting passed over in favor of UK if UK goes to the Gator. But to have a chance at getting to the Gator the Cats must win against UT. If the Cats win they are an attractive pick because of fan support.

Should we write that down? I didn't realize it was a done deal. I'm sure you said the same thing about South Carolina.

I'll keep saying it as long as people keep thinking head to head results have a bearing on who goes where.

Something else to consider. Both the Liberty Bowl and Chick-Fil-A Bowl play on New Year's Eve -- the same day as Kentucky's basketball game at Louisville. From a logistics standpoint from the AD Dept., I doubt UK would want to have their staffs split on the same day, especially since the Liberty Bowl will kick off before the basketball game ends.

It looks like Nashville or bust yet again. Should UK beat Tennessee, there would be an outside shot at the Gator Bowl. UK fans better root for Ga Tech to beat Georgia and UK to beat Tennessee. That is their best shot at the Gator Bowl. If Georgia finishes 6-6, I think the Gator Bowl takes them over Kentucky, even if UK beats Tennessee.

Unless the SEC bowl selection rules have changed, a 6-6 Georgia can't get to the Gator over a 7-5 UK and 8-4 Miss St. They are only allowed to skip 1 team. They can't skip both to get to Georgia. So UK doesn't need Ga to lose. UK just needs to win, and hopefully get the nod over MSU.

Also where did I say anything about head to head being an advantage?

ACC gets a BCS bid, likely Va Tech. That leaves #2 to Atlanta for the chicken bowl, most likely Florida State or Miami

ACC #6 gets the Music City Bid. That means a toss up between Florida State, North Carolina State, Miami, Maryland, and North Carolina.

The three bowls ahead of the Music City are the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando (Acc #3), Sun Bowl (ACC #4), and the Meineke Car Care Bowl (ACC #5).

Florida State/Miami to the Champs Bowl. NC State to the Sun Bowl. North Carolina to the Car Care Bowl.

That could mean a UK/Maryland matchup in the Music City Bowl. If Georgia Tech beats Georgia and UK loses to Tennessee, the Wreck could be in Nashville as well.

There are 70 slots open for bowl games and as of this weekend, there are 54 teams bowl eligible. It's looking like we could very well see teams with losing records in bowl games this year.

It's called the Bowden Rule.

The Gator Bowl took a 6-6 Florida State team last year because it was Bobby Bowden's last game. They jumped four teams to get them there. It can be done. Bowls are going to take who they want, regardless of records and sometimes, in this case, rules.

If UK wants to go to the Gator Bowl, they better hope Georgia loses to Tech and that UK somehow beats Tennessee to keep them on the outside.
