I understand what you're saying, and agree, I just think that psychologically the kids Highlands will face during the playoffs are now very aware that they are beatable, where as before the Birds opponents were facing a team that hadn't been beat since Bush was in office(2006). I think it also can have the same adverse affect on the Birds psychy as well. With that said, and as I've indicated with previous posts, I think the Birds are still the favorite.

 

I actually think the loss is a good thing, but the whole physch think is understandable.

 

You never know how kids, especially high school kids are going to respond to an emotional let down.

I don't think Highlands is a clear favorite. I think they are vulnerable this year. I think 5A as a whole is a little better this year than in recent years and this Highlands team isn't quiet as good as recent Highlands teams. As a matter of fact, I think NKY football is down this year. IMO, this year there is a real possibility we could get shut out all together from bringing a championship back north in any class. I do think NCC gives NKY its best chance of winning a state championship. Does this mean Highlands won't win it this year? Of course not, I would never count them out and they may still be the favorite. But clear favorite? I don't think so.

I'd agree with this statement a lot more if it were a 5A team that beat the Birds and not Ryle.

I'm not so sure at this point BG is the team most likely to meet HHS if HHS can navigate their way through the east side of the bracket. BG really made their task more difficult by losing last week to Warren Central. They most likely have to travel to Christian for a second round matchup and if they survive that they get crosstown rival WC again. They are nursing some injuries that have hurt their team speed significantly. Honestly I think Warren Central may be the better team right now and that doesn't even take into account John Hardin who is playing well. Only time will tell but I still would have to consider HHS the favorite to win 5A. BGHS will be the heavy favorite next year.

I think most on here know that I try to be as fair as possible in my assesment, with that said. Highlands will IMO, not face another team the rest of the year with as talented of a RB as Elliot, nor will they face one with a QB that can hand the ball off to a kid as talented as Elliot or run the ball about as well as 3A-4A all star RB. Not to mention the fact that many have people agreed Highlands got beat up front at their line, especially on D. I've watched some of BG and I just don't see them presenting the same problems for Highlands as what Ryle did. The birds have great speed.

 

I really don't know what to expect out of Highlands in the post season, but I'm pretty sure we can expect that they won't play any team that will give them the mismatches that Ryle did, mismatches were what hurt the birds.

We lost quite a few seniors last year, with QB being our biggest loss. We have both Rb's back from last year and have replaced other key personnel with quality players. Junior QB Eli Mitchell is playing well running the offense.

How is the defense looking? As I remember, last year John H had the best defense in the state.

I'd say that Highlands is still the favorite, how clearly that is remains the big question. I wouldn't be shocked to see a team further down state out of 5A win it all this year. I do agree that this is likely the year for it to happen if it is going to. If it is not Highlands, the qustion of who makes me curious. I believe that it is fairly wide open in the more southern part of KY.

John's defense is very fast. Our D line is strong.

And yes that includes Bowling Green and Johnson Central. Bowling Green poses the biggest threat as they have the most diverse offense.

Do we need to go back to grade school and remind everyone that just because team C(Trinity) beat team A(BG) by X amount of points doesn't mean that team A is going to favor well against team B(H) just because team B(H) lost to a team in the same class as team C(Trinity) by 2 points on the opposing teams home field....... Both team haves different style's of play. If you don't believe me ask them, I'm pretty sure the two teams you're referring to would both agree, they had a scrimmage this year that was pretty close to a game.

 

Don't get me wrong, heart does mean ALOT, but so does skill, great coaching and character, behind a program also means alot.
