I disliked the idea of "The Decision" as well BUT still.....

 

I will always believe that's the only thing he did wrong. He never should have done that, and a lot of the fallout is due to it. I think people kid themselves if they believe Cleveland was going to be OK with him leaving under any circumstances, but "The Decision" made it very justified for their furor. Bare minimum, he should have told the team that he would not be returning before he ever went on air. Could have done that without saying where he was going.

 

I think a lot of fans are hypocritical about it, saying he sold out for the championships and such. For years we hear all about how fans just want them to care about winning more than money, and when a guy chooses that, it's all about how he took the easy way out. He damaged his potential legacy, in that any title he won as the only man in Cleveland would have meant more than those in Miami. I agree with that wholeheartedly. Here's the problem: He was never going to win a title in Cleveland. He may never win one in Miami, who knows. But I'd seen enough to know that there was no way he was going to get it in Cleveland. Any title is a better legacy than none.

 

As for the commercial, I liked it for entertainment value. It does nothing to change his mistakes, or to make me like or dislike him more. It's a commercial.

I am kind of on the same wavelength as SvFan except I liked the Decision. He was the biggest free agent of all time and even though he completely orchestrated The Decision had he not orchestrated it his press conference announcing he was going to Miami would have turned into the The Decision. He was the biggest free agent of all time in any sport and there was no getting around the 24/7 media coverage this Decision brought. All of his commercials are incredibly entertaining going back to the commercials when he played every part as The LeBrons and even ones without him but with puppets were entertaining. This one here is his best work to date after the puppet commercial when Kobe won it all in 2009, IMO.

 

And no, he isn't a racist. He said his race plays a factor in some peoples perception and hate of him and I think the racist tweets sent to him proved his point.

People maybe did overreact, but it was all brought on my himself. If you are going to hold a one hour show and use the media to throw an entire city under bus, he should be prepared to receive the backlash that comes with it. LeBron never has understood that and not sure he ever will.

I loved it. I thought Nike did a great job as they always do. I love the sarcasm in it. The "Hi Chuck" part is great. This commercial makes me like LeBron more.

I agree completely. It is the same as what my wife and I told our kids. You make decisions that make you happy and don't worry about what other people say. You'll never be able to please everyone any way so don't worry about it. I love the sarcasm also.

I must be in the dark on this one, how is Lebron James racist?

 

He blamed the white media for causing the firestorm around "The Decision" ... (more like .. he blamed the negative stuff that came from it ... and played the race card and made it clear that he felt that he wasn't treated fairly because of the color of his skin).

 

The funny thing is ... I couldn't have cared less what he did or where he ended up until that point. To me--he was (is) a great basketball player who was doing what the rest of great players do when their contract is up. But when he pulled the race card ... that ended it for me.

 

I just struggle with the "look at me, look at me" attitude ... and when someone has something to say about it ... it isn't because you are begging for any kind of publicity ... it is because of race. That singular tactic (IMO) contributes more to racist thoughts than other other event that happens in 2010.

I really liked the commercial. I have been one of the most vocal about LeBron this off-season, but I thought this commercial gave incite to how he felt. It is a commercial that says "I'm here, deal with it" but I don't look at that as a negative. I think that this was a way of saying that he did what he wanted to do in going to Miami. I think that is the root of his problems, he feels that people don't like him because he went to the Heat. And for many, if not most people that isn't their biggest gripe. It was the selfishness he displayed this summer, especially with the "Decision".

 

Until he can figure out that it was the incident that really turned alot of people off to him, its going to be tough for him. However I think that this may end up being a step in the right direction.

I agree. I don't mind him leaving at all. That was his right and his decision. I do have a big problem with all the production and show that he and espn made of it. A t.v. special to announce a decision.......classless. Now he is stil playing it out. James is not now or imo never will be M. Jordan and thats what he's trying to do. James has won nothing. I know they will win, no doubt but I can still root against Miami if I watch them and hope "Mr. Me" James has the worst season of his life.
