Anthony Wales (Central) rushes for over 400 yards in blowout

Featured Replies

I will be consistent as I complained about the record last week and say that if this game was decided early(and judging by the score I'm sure it was) then Central's coach is just as bad as Matney! If anyone has details to the contrary I will apologize in advance.

Is there any sportsmanship left in high school sports??

How many carries and when did they occur?

I'm under the impression that many Coach's when winning will keep their starters in until the other team pulls theirs. I'm ok with that. Now if the losing team pulled all of their starters and the RB is still getting carries then thats a whole other story.

Wales had 403 yards rushing and six (6) TDs on 14 carries, and it was all in the 1st half. Can you imagine what the final would have been if Central would have kept the pedal to the metal for the 2nd half also? I don't see this in any way as the Yellowjackets running up the score. :ohbrother:

Off topic... I'm reminded of the opening scenes of Gladiator when one of Maximus' soldiers says people should know when they've been defeated/beaten. Maximus' response, "would you?".

Wales was taken out of the game with 5 min. to go in the 2nd quarter. He carried the ball 14 times. Do not put Central's coach in the same boat as Matney. Scroggins could have went for the state record. Wales could have had well over 600 yards rushing.

Thanks for the info and I concur in your opinion.

In these blowouts, the winning team should pull his 1st team offense when the game gets to the running clock (45 points). I am ok with leaving the first team defense in a little longer. The onus IMO is on the winning team to pull his starters first. It seems a little silly to ask a team losing by 45 points to pull their starters and put their subs in if the winning team still has their first team in.

At to Mr. Wales accomplishment, 400+ yards in the first half is IMO the most impressive rushing performance of the season.

Which is often times the problem with that line of reasoning, but I feel that a head coach can't complain about another team running up the score if they're unwilling to pull their starters first. Pulling the starters is the same as someone throwing the towel in the middle of the boxing ring.

Well ya 45 points, I dont think I've ever witnessesd a coach not do that. Hell I think up 5 TD's in the 3rd quarter and the starters should be pulled, why risk the injuries, and if they're up 5 TD's in the third they've already put up good stats so that shouldn't be a concern either(although I don't feel it should ever be a concern).

My main point in that reply to your earlier post is that the first team to pull the one's in a blowout should be the team that is winning, not the team that is losing as you seemed to say in your post.

It's football, I say we get over it.

You all keep saying pull starters Shawnee only has like 16 kids on the team it be a little hard for their coach to pull his. Anyways Wales is a very good running back and big time prospect he doesn't just get his yards against bad teams he's been very consistent this whole season.
