Interesting deal.

What about Alonso and Wood for two years of Greineke?

I think Wood will be a stud. He is highly regarded within the organization too. I doubt he is moved, but if Greineke is involved who knows.

The Royals have time to deal Greinke and shouldn't just take the first decent offer they get ... if he bounces back, his value becomes much higher in July.

Jocketty clarified on Greinke: "We haven't had any discussions. If anyone did, it doesn't matter. Only Bob Castelllini & I matter on that."

Let's be clear: #Reds are at budget, needed to have Arroyo defer $ to get there. Greinke makes $13.5 mill. It's not going to happen.

I'd love to see the Reds make a trade for Jason Bartlett.

A good portion of Bronson Arroyo’s salary for the 2011 is deferred. Arroyo was set to make $13 million under the option that the club picked up. However, his new 3-year, $35 million contract has deferred money and will pay him all the way to 2021.

But don’t expect the Reds to go on a spending spree with the money saved.

“It helps us maintain what we have,” Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. “If he hadn’t done that, we’d be way, way over budget.”

Jocketty would not say exactly how much is deferred. Terms of contracts eventually come out through the Players Association. But Arroyo’s hasn’t because the Reds weren’t obligated to turn in paperwork because he was not a free-agent signing but rather an extension.

The Reds continue to be very quiet at the Winter Meetings.

^ And probably will be the whole time.

Maybe put a package together that would bring in Stephan Drew?

Per Rosenthal: Reds close to deal with Miguel Cairo.

That's what I first thought of when I read that they were interested in Heisey. I'd love that as a Reds fan.

I wouldn't get to excited about that happening. We can hope.

They seem pretty content with Janish at SS for the time being.
