When we had 4 classes there were about 50 schools complaining about being in with X and T, so we went to 6 classes instead of public/private league and there were about 30 schools complaining. Now there is only 2. Every other state surrounding Ky has a private league and a public league. This allows Ky to not have to split into two different leagues.

 

So how does a 12 school 'private' league work?

 

After the X (1453.5) and T (1357.5) schools there are no other 6A level schools, in fact there are no 5A level schools now. The next closest in size is CovCath at 504.5 enrollment. Then LexCath at 427.5. They are now both 4A. LexCath is second to smallest in 4A. Every other private school is 1A or 2A. Total number of privates playing football - 12. Thats it.

Jeezil, the draft districts were only released today for review and discussion by the member schools. They aren't even official yet. I think the people on BGP could help themselves in the not looking like fools department if they weren't so fast to make conspiracy arguments as to why this school was place here and that school was placed there.

 

Okay, being a little more serious, I have no idea if the KHSAA intends to explain its rationale. But my guess is that they will given a little time and after the districts are made final.

 

Perhaps they are awaiting the results of a BGP Poll on our thoughts before making their final decision. LOL. Couldnt resist. Sorry.

To your well-versed point, 02Ram54, there is no logic whatsoever in what the KHSAA has done. In their blind rush to get at St. X. and Trinity, they have smacked Male and Manual upside the head as well. I think the counter push needs to be a motion to seed the top 4 teams in each class. This would better assure that the best were still around at the end, while at the same time minimizing the travel cost argument.

 

Sometimes I feel our arrogance has gone too far. By that, I mean that we are complaining about the stab at Trinity and St. Xavier (all the while allowing us to make loads more $), we are being naive to the thought that they were also stabbing Male in the back, lumping them in the formally known Big III (no pun towards our heraled BGP group)....20/22 state championships, and we sealed our district's fate.

I don't understand all the crying about a 10 minute drive. If the Watterson is full, heck, hit the Gene Snyder. Good grief. I think the geographic hurdles are far worse than an extra 3/4 mile the Louisville teams will experience. Let's get right to it, you're ticked about the T and X alignment, not the drive. Had they put Graves Co. in your district I could see the complaint. But from the rest of the state, I think the "suck it up and stop whining" would be the common retort. Just sayin'.

 

Nobody cares about the extra four minutes....reason is what we're looking for.

Look, take Trinity and X out of the equation, because it doesn't matter where the KHSAA puts us, no one's going to be happy.

 

I, actually disagree, no matter where the teams are split, people will be happy. Just not all the people.

Comparing the Jefferson Cty schools and using schools out in the state makes no sense.

Board of Control meets on October 18th and is expected to take final action. The purpose of releasing the proposed districts to the schools today was to allow them some time to see it, think it over and make comments to the Board before final action.

 

I believe, and rightfully so, IMO, that the powers that be, at Trinity and X, will lobby to keep this format. Reason being, big dollars.

Because Manual, X and T are all inside 264 closest to downtown and similar in almost every way. Then you put either Male or Seneca, the two schools closest to those three in to complete that district. The other two districts get built with the school that are left and it is pretty easy to see that is how the KHSAA put it together geographically and every other way as well.

 

I personally don't see the benefit of working from the inside out, as opposed to overall geographics, but perhaps that is what was done.

Your argument makes no sense. How does it have any bearing on the fact that Fern Creek's CLOSEST district opponent is further than any of those schools? Especially when a much more reasonable setup is currently in place?

I pointed that althought that's true, 4 of those five schools have other schools closer to to them then Fern Creek. So while it would be beneficial to Fern Creek to have 3 of those schools in their district it wouldn't be for the 3 schools.

To answer your question RockPride, Virginia has a League for Private schools in every sport. Schools like Hargrave, Woodberry, Fork Union, and so on all compete in that league. :thumb:

Yes it would. It is beneficial to the system overall. That's my point about a more reasonable setup already being in place.

So is Butler. And Butler with Manual and X makes more sense than Trinity. But that doesn't fit the designs of the KHSAA.

If and when the KHSAA makes public their reasoning for creating the 4-team "super-district", will that truly satisfy those that "just want to know the reason(s)?"
