Can anyone defend this?

The new alignment:

Why is Butler driving past Manual, St.X and Male to play Seneca?

What is Seneca doing playing PRP, when literally every school in Jefferson County, regardless of alignment, is closer to them?

Why is Fern Creek in a district with Oldham County when Seneca and Southern are closer? For that matter, Fern Creek has three schools closer than their CLOSEST district opponent!

Look past T and X. This doesn't make sense for teams in Louisville. The KHSAA really screwed this up and produced a broken district map in Jefferson County.

I understand your frustration, but many teams have been traveling a good distance for years when there were teams closer.

So I take it that's a "no?"

Sometimes teams further out in the state have to deal with far flung teams in their district that SOMEBODY has to play. That isn't the case for Jefferson County. You can't look at the current alignment and say, "I may not like it, but that's the best that can be done with these 12 teams."

I think, perhaps, the best defense for this is this:

12 cards, with each team's name on one. Turn them face down and randomly pick up four for district 4, four new random ones for district 5 and the remaining four go to district 6.

On paper you have a point, 04. Going strictly by driving distances, the new alignment leaves something to be desired.

But Oldham County appears to be the only real outlier here. Everyone else is pretty bunched together. In the new alignment, for example, how far apart are Trinity and Male? Ten miles? Other districts in other classes have schools traveling more than two hours for district games.

I think Fern Creek is the best example: Three teams closer to them in their class than their closest district opponent. Can you show me any other team like that?

I don't think that his question is about frustration. It is about logic.

Going out in the state to compare to teams in Jefferson County shows just how bad the alignment is. The grouping is "ok" but the example I provide, based on the current setup, is clearly superior. Can anyone disagree with that?

I think, that except for Oldham Co, that all Jeff Co 6A schools are going to be close and there isn't much driving distance involved, especially as it compares to more rural districts (this isn't surprising, that rural schools have to drive more than city schools). The point is that you could still LOGICALLY group those twelve schools into closer districts than was the new re-alignment does. With that being said, one has to wonder what they based the new alignment on.

LCA and Paris have had three teams (Frankfort, Berea for sure) within 30 minutes for years but has had to travel two hours to Raceland and Fairview for district games. Likewise, Raceland and Fairview have had Paintsville :45 away and has had to travel two hours to play Paris and LCA. I'm sure there are many other similar stories around the state. Are we really going to argue about six miles?

The distance isn't the point. My map is based on the current setup, and makes more sense for EVERY team, not just robbing Peter to pay Paul. Why would the KHSAA change it? There's only one answer, and frankly it's kind of sad.

looks inefficient to me on the surface... I wonder what the reasoning was behind this

You are missing the point. See post 10.

I agree their closer, and if you were arguing about a great distance I could see it, but six miles just seems petty. I know what you are saying: T and X is not justified and was done on purpose. That may be the case and frankly I think that argument would hold more water then arguing about the distance.
