Hey, I've got no dog in this fight...so I'll take a stab at the title thread. While I agree that alternate map does make some obvious visual sense with regards to placement...there's also another way to look at the original.

 

If they look at these twelve schools and say, we've got to make three districts out of them, how do we do it? One way, might be by taking the four most "eastern" schools and grouping them together (Oldham, Ballard, Eastern and Fern Creek). Then, you take the southern most 4 of the remaining eight and group them together. What's left in the central makes up the final district.

 

However, even if this was indeed the case, the only one that I see where they messed up was Seneca and Male. This still would've put X and T in the same district.

Except Fern Creek belongs in the southern district. It's just slightly east of Trinity but much farther south than Male or Butler...

And which schools are Trinity with currently? That's right, Seneca and Ballard. Which one is in the new district? NEITHER.

 

Which three schools are closest to Oldham County? Trinity, Ballard, and Eastern. So why is that not a district? That's right, because Henderson County has to travel further to Daviess County.

The problem is school A may be closer to school B, C, and D but school B is closer to D, E, and F...and F is closer to A, G, and H. Evenually someone is going to have to drive by a couple of closer schools to get to a district opponent.

 

Don't think your point is lost on me and in the end I know why they did what they did. It just amuses me that Jefferson Co has an advantage over every other school in the state (6A) yet that's who we are hearing complain about this. They have a much much larger talent pool to draw from and they have to travel a fraction of the distance for thier district games. Trinity for example, will have to travel a lesser distance for thier 3 district games combined then Henderson will for their closest district game. And think about Marshall Co. Their closest district game will be Muhlenbergh Co at 80 miles one way.

My point is that the current system is the most efficient. They had to make it less efficient to get what they wanted, and having that goal in mind is, I'll say it again, absolutely pathetic on the part of those that drew up these districts.

And apparently I was wrong: Fern Creek is closer to FIVE schools in Louisville than their closest district opponent. Again, no one can explain why.

I noticed you didn't answer for Fern Creek's case.

 

The point, again, is not distance. Maybe by varying the word order I have a chance of that sinking in.

 

No one can possibly claim that the new districts make more sense than the old ones. If the refutation is going to be "Team A out in the state drives 100 miles each way to play Team B" then there's no district combination in Jefferson County that can't be supported. But it also doesn't mean that a district of Manual, Ballard, Fern reek and Oldham County would make sense.

Of those X has 6 schools closer then Fern Creek, T has 6, Male has 6, and Seneca 3. I will agree that Southern and Fern Creek not being in the same district makes no sense no matter how you look at it.

Maybe the KHSAA had another "blind draw" where only regions 3-6 participated and 1,2 and 7,8 didn't to save "gas money.":lol:

Will they state the truthful answer (To let other non Louisville schools advance farthe rin the playoffs and prevent Trinity and X from playing in the championship) or come up with some bureaucratic lie? We shall see...

I don't think anyone at KHSAA would argue that this 6A alignment is intended to minimize driving distance for district games. It's a little laughable to complain about driving a few extra miles when there are districts in other classes where the opponents are all much farther apart than any two schools in Jeff Co. This was clearly a thinly-veiled move to ensure that T and X cannot meet in the finals. I suspect that if there was one

more school from the greater Louisville area, we might have seen a return to something like the "Jeff Co champ vs State champ" arrangement from the early days of 4A. Other than Dunbar in district 2, every team in districts 2, 3, 4, and 5 could have formed one side of this bracket. Then, it may not have been necessary to load up one district with Male, Manual, St X, and Trinity.

Your argument makes no sense. How does it have any bearing on the fact that Fern Creek's CLOSEST district opponent is further than any of those schools? Especially when a much more reasonable setup is currently in place?

To be honest, I really don't mind that Trinity and X are in the same district. I can even somewhat justify Male in that district. I do think Manual got the shaft, but they'd essentially been playing that schedule anyway, albeit with Trinity as an OOD game. It's going to be difficult for any of these schools to defeat each other twice. But, I guess in the end since they all make the playoffs, none has to beat the others except in the playoffs.

 

From a pure fan standpoint, I like the battles this will hopefully bring to Trinity's district games. Ballard has been getting tougher, but I think this new district toughens Trinity's district schedule by leaps and bounds. Now it will be interesting to see how we schedule OOD games, given those were historically our toughest games.

Does the KHSAA have a rule that says districts have to be based solely on geography/closest travel? Seems to me that people upset with the district in question are basing their argument on such a rule and I've never heard of it. I know the move up option was based on geographic isolation, but don't recall reading or hearing that districting was based on strictly on geography. Any one seen such a rule or proclamation by the KHSAA?

Come on! We all know the reason! Have you been living under a rock! This is a rock solid way for the people in that room to make sure there is no way Trinity, St. X and Male will never play one of each other in the 6A State Finals...

I am neither a "T" or an "X" fan, so please save all of the "whining" comments for someone else. Explain to my why geography shouldn't pan out in these three districts, when it so easily could have.

 

If it's not whining, what is it? And I don't know who you support, nor do I care. Didn't have to know you had to be a fan of either to whine. It's clear why the Louisville arrangement was made. It wasn't for geography, so I don't know why we have these maps. But I have a feeling that there will be alot of boohooing for seasons to come.
