Does the KHSAA have a rule that says districts have to be based solely on geography/closest travel? Seems to me that people upset with the district in question are basing their argument on such a rule and I've never heard of it. I know the move up option was based on geographic isolation, but don't recall reading or hearing that districting was based on strictly on geography. Any one seen such a rule or proclamation by the KHSAA?

 

I think the KHSAA could help themselves in the public perception department if they would be a little more transparent in explaining themselves.

Like stated before, I don't think that the rest of the state will feel sorry because of travel arrangements that put these 6A districts in travel problems across the great expanse that is Louisville.

I don't think anyone at KHSAA would argue that this 6A alignment is intended to minimize driving distance for district games. It's a little laughable to complain about driving a few extra miles when there are districts in other classes where the opponents are all much farther apart than any two schools in Jeff Co. This was clearly a thinly-veiled move to ensure that T and X cannot meet in the finals. I suspect that if there was one

more school from the greater Louisville area, we might have seen a return to something like the "Jeff Co champ vs State champ" arrangement from the early days of 4A. Other than Dunbar in district 2, every team in districts 2, 3, 4, and 5 could have formed one side of this bracket. Then, it may not have been necessary to load up one district with Male, Manual, St X, and Trinity.

 

Actually even if X and T were not in the same district, if the KHSAA went solely by geography as some have asserted they are supposed to, there are three other 6A Jeff Co. schools to the east of T. If the KHSAA sole purpose was to prevent X and T from making the finals together, the KHSAA could have used an east west test and used that rationale to put Ballard, Eastern and Fern Creek with Oldham Co to comprise the western-most district in the east bracket. Which means X and T were going to be in the west bracket regardless of whether they were in District 4 together or one was in District 4 and the other in District 3. It was not necessary to place X and T in the same district to accomplish such alleged thinly veiled move.

Jeezil, the draft districts were only released today for review and discussion by the member schools. They aren't even official yet. I think the people on BGP could help themselves in the not looking like fools department if they weren't so fast to make conspiracy arguments as to why this school was place here and that school was placed there.

 

Okay, being a little more serious, I have no idea if the KHSAA intends to explain its rationale. But my guess is that they will given a little time and after the districts are made final.

I am neither a "T" or an "X" fan, so please save all of the "whining" comments for someone else. Explain to my why geography shouldn't pan out in these three districts, when it so easily could have.

Why is Butler driving past Manual, St.X and Male to play Seneca?

 

What is Seneca doing playing PRP, when literally every school in Jefferson County, regardless of alignment, is closer to them?

 

Why is Fern Creek in a district with Oldham County when Seneca and Southern are closer? For that matter, Fern Creek has three schools closer than their CLOSEST district opponent!

 

Look past T and X. This doesn't make sense for teams in Louisville. The KHSAA really screwed this up and produced a broken district map in Jefferson County.

 

WHY????? Because everybody gets a trophy these days. Got to make sure every player and every team has a calculated chance with the Big Boys outta the way. LOL Too Bad!!!! My same thoughts on the whole 6 Class system.

The purpose of releasing the proposed districts to the schools today was to allow them some time to see it, think it over and make comments to the Board before final action. Once it's final, then the KHSAA can explain itself to the public. Before then doesn't make much sense, at least not to me.

 

I enjoy this board (I better say that since I've been here for about 10 years) but the " I have a right to know everything right now" mentality is a bit irritating. And I love high school sports, but reading some of the posts on here and seeing people get so worked up about high school sports at times really is both saddening and frightening.

I think when you are talking about districts in urban areas where schools are a lot closer together, strict geography as the only basis for alignment may be overblown. There isn't a lot of difference between driving five miles, eight miles, and 10 miles for a district game in the city. Most rural schools aren't afforded that luxuary. Heck, a lot of them would be greatful for 10-15 mile district trips. Look at Ruusellville in Class 1A. No matter how you align them, their closest district opponent will be Mayfield, 139 miles away.

Makes you wonder if ANY work was done around the Bluegrass today. I know I didn't do much for reading all the posts

And which schools are Trinity with currently? That's right, Seneca and Ballard. Which one is in the new district? NEITHER.

 

Which three schools are closest to Oldham County? Trinity, Ballard, and Eastern. So why is that not a district? That's right, because Henderson County has to travel further to Daviess County.
