Yes, but how many of those teams are passing non-district schools in their class to get to those two hour drives?

 

I have no idea. If they're passing a school 6 miles away to get to a school that's 120 miles away, then it's a matter of inefficiency.

The team I support sits in 3AD6; and is not likely (in the sport of football, at any rate) to be confused with Trinity, St. Xavier, Manual or Male. I just find it bordering on the comical that so many are up in arms about this. I happen to think that a 4-year "super-district" experiment would be fascinating.

So, it seems as if the schools themselves, whether OK with it, or not, are ready to adapt and keep playing football. I'm not trying to paint everyone with the same broad brush here. It is duly noted that there are some members here who are ready to, in a manner of speaking, lace 'em up and play football.

 

But there are those who, while professing not to be hung up on geography, nevertheless want a scientific/geographical answer to their question of "why". Some say that's all they want - the rationale for the proposal - then they'll be completely satisfied.

 

Suppose the rationale is this. "We believe that the proposed incarnation of 6AD3 through 5 - and particularly D4 - will result in heightened interest and competition."

So draw your districts any way you want but make sure T and X are both in the west. That is right and fair.

When Louisville is the geographic center of the class, and Trinity is on the eastern side of town and St. Xavier is in the central part of town, you can't be too shocked if they end up on opposite sides.

For years, the dividing line East/West in the state magically fell somewhere in the 6 miles between X & Trinity so the state could benefit from a larger gate at state finals. Now, they have put them together to keep the majority of public schools quiet about the public/private debate. Different commissioner, different goals.

I will also say this ... is putting the two superpowers in the same district was the answer all along, can we go back to four classes and still put them in the same district?

Exactly! While we may end up on the same side of the bracket as X, which is fine with me, the fact of the matter is that geographically Louisville is the center point for 6A. Since it has 3 districts and not 2 you are either going to end up putting one district on an opposite of the bracket or you are going to put all three on one side. This would force Lexington or NKY schools to have to potentially travel to Henderson for playoff games while the three districts in Louisville may never need to leave town prior to the title game.

Wouldn't that be nice. But it is impossible to "un ring" the bell. I would say there would be more screaming if the KHSAA said we were going back to four classes then there were when they announced we were going to six classes. Just my guess. Of course, most on BGP would love to see four classes again, but we are obviously of higher intelligence.

If you're drawing districts in 6A for the Louisville area and you were given dots on a map and no names, there's no way that the vast majority of people wouldn't group the districts like I've pointed out at the beginning of this thread. Especially if you don't look ahead and see that these districts will split into different semis.

It should NOT be the KHSAA's role to level the playing field any more than it should be their role to balance the brackets and make sure the top two schools can play each other.
