I am currently in Japan and a friend of mine who works at Corning with me is here also. He is a Mercer County fan. We met at the local Japanese watering hole and the first thing he says to me is "did you see where Boyle and Danville may not play each other anymore?" I laughed, slugged my adult beverage down and said......"Good!!!!" I hope we are done with them. That's what they get." You see......in about 5-10 years Boyle County and Danville will become one school that will play in 5A or 6A. It's a matter of time people. Wrap your heads around to it and let it sink in. It is going to happen at some point and this is the first step. Boyle County would be STUPID.....yes STUPID to turn away the bowl games with Trinity and St. X to appease Sam Harp/Danville. Period. The time has come to do what is right for the PROGRAM at Boyle County and if that means stepping on Sam Harp...I mean Danville's toes.......then so be it. Boyle County doesn't have any hurt feelings over Will Dunn.....Danville does. Will Dunn showed up at Boyle County's doorstep and he was welcomed in. Hopefully the right thing will be done before the season ends and young Will will be allowed to suit up AT LEAST ONCE IN BLACK AND GOLD. I say have the bowl game at Boyle County next year....sink the Pigskin Classic....move on....so be it. If it costs Boyle County a regular season game against a crosstown foe then so what. No sweat off of my back. Sam Harp ran away from Boyle County at the rec league level, the freshman level and the jv level and that is the truth. I'll be here all week(and anytime for that matter) to stand by that statement for anyone who wants to take it further.

 

 

 

The Danville/Boyle County rivalry may be done. And good riddance. Who really looks like the coward after losing 12 of the last 15 matchups and getting dusted the last 3 years?

Since you are from Bowling Green, you have no idea about this rivalry, so all that junk you just spewed is empty words in my opinion. If Danville and Sam Harp have hurt feelings they need to get over it, if Larry French and Boyle Co. have hurt feelings they need to get over it. I can see PP 92 you are kinda close to the situation since you work at Corning. If you have the connection I think you do, maybe you are just hearing one side of the story. About the bowl game, I don't understand why Boyle having a Bowl will affect things. Danville will invite different teams to their Bowl game, and Boyle can invite teams to their Bowl game. Boyle Co. had only been a part of the Pigskin Classic the last two years.

I have a very good idea of this rivalry. It isn't just football. It's soccer, it's golf, it's basketball(boy's and girl's......need I remind you who the girl's coach is presently and who the next rumored boy's coach is........hint....his last name rhymes with ottoms.....) it's baseball(your baseball head coach is a Camic disciple.....wait...wasn't Camic at Danville when Morse was...ahhhhh.....forget it)...it's swimming, it's volleyball, it's CATS scores, it's perfect SAT scores, it's BAND!!!!!! I know all about this rivalry. My stance is that if people want to get all riled up about the football part of the rivalry then so be it. I am connected enough to know that if there isn't a football game between the two teams then the reason is because of the the blue and white not the black and gold. You don't have to believe me but the proof is in the pudding. Sam Harp turned his back on the rivalry 5 years ago and now it may be coming to fruition at the varsity level. No surprise here.

 

For what it's worth....even if they quit playing each other in the near future.......IF the schools don't merge the rivalry will pick back up one day. Too much money in the community for the rivalry to just fade away.

 

Me, personally, I could care less. If Danville wants to turn their back on their biggest gate every other year then so be it. We'll make money whether Danville is on our schedule or not.

 

 

If Boyle County can have the bowl games next year......the same weekend of the Pigskin Classic(which I am all for)....then the Pigskin Classic will cease to exist. And everyone knows that. Including Bob Allen who would be happy to switch over to Boyle bowl game if it gets him more exposure to a Louisville audience. It's all about the money.

I don't know what is going on with this situation, but who ever has their feelings hurt needs to get over it, ending this rivalry that has gone on since 1965 over one incident is totaly ridiculous. For me that goes for both sides, whoever it is, don't get mad and take your ball and go home with your lip stuck out.:irked:

When the superintendents from both schools don't have local ties and and have been discussing it on more than one occasion? Yes, I see the possibility of these two fine schools becoming one at some point in the future. Why not is the real question.

I agree. I wouldn't mind seeing it. It's going to happen sooner or later. The subject has been brought up a million times in the past. "IF" it did happen, when would it? Next five years? Next ten years?

If a merger was to happen, IMO it would be because the Danville School system having money problems. I know from the past there has been some issues at Danville according to the newspaper. Not sure if that's still going on today, but it did in the past. There has been bad blood over school boundries between these two schools for many years. Danville and Boyle both claimed Bluegrass Estates as their school district and the courts had to get envolved. What happens in the furture remains to be seen, but there is no love lost between these two schools, on and off the football field.

My only question is if there are 11 weeks in a season, why would Danville and Boyle County both schedule a bowl game on the same weekend? I can understand Boyle wanting to show case their new facilities and host a bowl game, but why not do it week 0 or week 2. Danville has ran their Bowl game since 95. It has become one of the finer run bowl games in KY. Maybe they can get together and host two bowl games on two nights of the same weekend. I am all for Boyle hosting St X and Trinity. That means they would have to play one of them. I would just be willing to bet that neither X or Trinity is interested in coming to Danville KY to play in a bowl game, that is just my opinion however!

Let's start by saying that there might be a reason for a bowl game in the same week, but it is probably more about self-interest.

 

As to your last statement, all I can say is that you might lose that bet. That's all I'll say.

I hope this long rivalry continues because of the great tradition. Hopefully both parties will work together for a solution where they can both have their bowl games (for the revenue) AND keep this rivalry alive too, which will also continue to be a big money maker. Best wishes to both schools on this because it has to be a difficult issue to deal with.

I worked in Danville for 4 years. I loved the excitement in the community. Growing up I loved Montgomery County-Mt. Sterling games. But the final 1-2 years the rivalry was unhealthy (vandalism, etc.) and the two boards decided the only way they would play would be if they met in a tournament. If Danville-Boyle is healthy...continue the games.

Don't know where you got that from. The Danville/Boyle County game is a regular season game and will be until further notice.
