Big congrats to Bowling Green for the strong showing against Trinity! Way to represent 5A! Congrats to Trinity on pulling out the win in difficult circumstances (i.e., QB injuries). Hopefully, these guys are OK for later this year.

I agree the refs were miserable. They should have called MANY holding penalties on Trinity that were painfully obvious.

For those who predicted 35+ point win by T (Alan60) and 59-14 blowout by T (Oxnard), I must say you couldn't have been more wrong. BG held their own with Trinity and had a chance to win the game.

You can talk about penalties or backup QB's, I don't care. BG came to play and hopefully we will benefit down the road for playing this game tonight.

Have to wonder if some of the penalties were out of frustration for the Rocks.

Well, the blowout predictors are St X fans, so you really can't pay any attention to them. They have their own misguided agendas. Congrats on a good game. Forgive us if we think that a win with a 4th string qb on the road is a big deal. We do care. :thumb:

No more so then the numerous holds on the Purples that were never called. And how many times did BG stand over a player after a tackle and not get called for anything?

It all comes out in the wash, so to speak. If it weren't for the ref's and Trinity playing their 4th string QB they would have beaten the Purples 59-12 like Ox and Alan 60 predicted.

The biggest play of the game: Peter May's third FG attempt being blocked. It would have given the Purples a 15-14 lead and may have been the game winner.

 

Trinity dominated time of possession. They put together some really decent drives, but could only cash in on two, mainly due to the BGHS defense. People talk about their offensive numbers, but the defense has been stellar for the Purples so far this year.

 

Derek Bishop. This kid is unassuming, barely bigger than a hiccup, not very impressively built. All this kid has is heart, and tons of it!! We couldn't stop him last year at Marshall Stadium, and we didn't do much better Friday night.

 

The Trinity fans we talked to were great. They appreciated the welcome and wish for luck when they came in tonight as well as the congrats on a superb game and get back home safely message as we all were leaving. It really made Mrs PH and I proud that we're Purple Fanatics when they were full of accolades for the play of our guys tonight!

 

Trinity won right? See that's what the really great teams do. They lose their starter and their back-up and they simply win. Oh it may not be as pretty as some would hope, but the bottom line is, it's a win.

You are correct that Derek is unassuming and has heart. But you need to take a closer look at his build. He's built like a tank and prior to last year had hardly seen a weight room yet has big time god given strength.

Will be interesting to see where he goes and how he develops. In a lot of ways he remind me of the current NFL RB trend with these 5'6 200lb machines that run 4.4's and bench 475.

When I first saw the score I was like WOW! Then I saw that T had to play with their 3rd and 4th string qb's. If T would of had their 1st string qb I believe the score probably would of been a lot different..

Great programs find ways to win -- Period.

Congratulations to the Rocks!

 

Didn't get to see or listen to the game due to a family emergency, but the account that I got tells me that the young Rocks faced a lot of adversity last night and somehow came away with a win against a VERY, VERY good Bowling Green team.

During the playoffs when referreeing crews are brought in from different parts of the state, I've often wondered if the game might be called differently across the state, especailly regarding blocking fouls. Maybe this is what happened last night. I wasn't there so I can't really say. Maybe the game is called a little looser in Louisville.

 

In its never-ending, lemming-like quest to turn itself into a pamphlet rather than a newspaper, the C-J has reduced the info provided in its box scores, so all we have is the scoring by quarters and how the scores occurred. Does anyone have more detailed stats? The brief article did say that T had 330 total yards and BG had 174.
