I have said a few times on here, that this city is not as much of a baseball town anymore as people think. Shoot I think the Reds season this year proves that. In a baseball town with a team in first place in September, you would be seeing basically packed houses every game or close to it.

 

Flawed logic IMO. Baseball plays 81 home games per year all during the week AND their games are easily accessed on TV. The NFL plays only 8 home games plus they're on the weekend AND if everyone doesn't buy a ticket it's not on TV. In addition we'll see this week (the first home game) that it's going to go down the wire to see if it actually sells out. My guess is Channel 12 will have to buy tickets.

Price vs. Sabathia and the game is 2/3's capacity? First place was on the line, and they only get 27K?? Can't really get a better situation for a sellout, and yet they failed to get a sellout. It's not just the Reds or this city.

Back to the thread topic. I agree with you, we need to make a playoff run. I really think we kick the you know what out of Pittsburgh if they don't go and wrench Palmer's knee. This is a big season for Palmer. He has the highest QB rating in NFL History without a playoff win. It's time.

Can you then at least tell me what makes this still a baseball town then? As someone said for the older generation is always will be because of how great the days were with the big red machine. However the younger generation never had anything like that to get behind, there is no real reason for the younger generation to be more behind the Reds. I just don't think this is as much of a baseball town anymore as people think, because it really isn't anymore. Its just more of a sports town anymore, from high school sports on up.

No one ever claimned that Tampa Bay was a baseball town, like people say about Cincinnati. When you think of baseball towns, you see those teams usually have full crowds especially in September when still in it. The days of Cincinnati being a baseball town are over.

I do think its time for them to actually make a run in the playoffs. However to say if they get to the playoffs and still don't win a game, that they need to get rid of some people is wrong IMO. I hate the fact that people think its so easy to go out and get a QB that you can win with. I know I don't ever want to get back to what we were in the 90 and early 2000's with bad QB's and 3 win seasons.

Since the discussion was wrapped around Cincinnati being a baseball town, I thought my observation was pertinent. I agree with you on the national level. Football is America's sport.

If Aaron Harang, Johnny Gomes and CoCo all had gigs on "Dancing with the Stars" or their own reality dating show, I think the national perspective would be different. So, on that front, I agree with you. However, just going on gut, I think of Cincy as a baseball town, steeped in heritage the first of which is the honor of having the oldest baseball franchise.

Growing up I enjoyed the Big Red Machine and two Bengal Superbowl appearances. This town was "off the chain" for both. I don't really think it's a baseball or football town. It's just a town that loves when their home team wins and supports them like crazy when they do. I just wish we could produce consistently good teams. It's the droughts that kill the fan support.
