Rule 13

Surprising to me.

Not me.

I expected a closer score but I am not surprised. I wouldn't have been surprised if the teams were reversed on the scoreboard either. I had no expectations and had I voted today I'd have picked Somerset.

Somerset has a good team but Danville turnovers made this game easy for them. Somerset has a better team at this point, but hopefully Danville will learn from this game. I wasn't able to go to the game due to working. When you turn the ball over so much it just kills the opportunity to build any momentum. The Danville defense still played well, because with turnovers and field position the offense kept giving Somerset, the score could have been 60-13.

Big pluses for the Jumpers were defense and special teams. The Ads had no answer for the Slaughter brothers. They were in the back field all night long. Punting was awesome and punt/ kickoff persuit were good. Offense needs work. I know SHS scored 38 pts but had too many misconnections in the passing game. Jumpers also had very little rushing O.

Somerset was very solid tonight. Their QB is very impressive and has a very good arm. Also, they have a very good swarming defense that basically shut down the Ads all night.

It's shocking to see how far the Ads have fallen over the past four years. Tonight was one of the most undisciplined, fundamentally unsound performances I've seen in quite some time from any team.

Observations:

1. Dropped passes

2. Broken plays where the qb turned one way and the rb the other

3. Blown coverages in the secondary

4. Fielding a punt over the shoulder on their own 2 yard-line.

5. Zero blocking

6. 6 or 7 fumbles (I finally lost count).

7. Numerous personal foul and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties

8. Penalty called when a Danville player removed his helmet on the field

9. On one occasion where Danville punted, the ball was bouncing toward Somerset's end. Instead of shadowing the ball until it came to a stop, the Danville player just turned away as the ball was still moving, thus allowing the Somerset player to field the ball and advance it a bit.

The one bright spot is that other than a few blown coverages in the secondary, the defense actually played well. But, it's hard to stop a good team when you fumble time after time giving them a short field with which to score.

Even without the sloppiness on Danville's part, Somerset was still the superior team and they should go far this year.

Danville fumbled something like 5-6 times...hard to defeat anyone when that's the case.

That being said, Somerset was the better team in this one.

Both D-lines were dominant tonight. Danvilles D-line basicaly kept them in the game in the first half when Somerset should have put the ADs away. ADs turnover hurt them but several were forced, not just drops or missed handoffs. Somerset's D played a great game lead by the front three of Trey Slaughter, Tevin Slaughter and Stringer. I don't know how many tackles for a loss those three had but it has to be in double digits. Rest of D played very well also, containing the ADs O most of the night.

Storm Wilson had a big game catching 3 TD catches and opening the game with a huge kick off return.

Punter Alex Lange was a huge weapon tonight, boomed several high deep punts keeping the Ad's backed up most of the night.

Congratulations to Somerset. I thought Danville might have a home field advantage, but you can't put it on the ground that many times and expect to win. Jumpers keep on keeping on.

I laughed too!

Great game by the Briar Jumpers defense tonight. Somerset was way more physical than the Admirals tonight and it really showed. Danville had no answers for the Briar Jumper defense, especially the defensive front. The Admiral defense played very well overall but the game was played on the Danville end of the field all night thanks to turnovers and great punting by Alex Lange. Most of the Danville fumbles came after crushing hits by the Briar Jumper defense--the Admirals didn't look like they were used to getting hit like that. Congrats to the Briar Jumpers and good luck to Danville the rest of the year.

It sounds like this is the year that Briar Jumpers might finally get the Championship monkey off their back. Congrats to the Bunnies and to their players & fans. :thumb:
