In NKY we know that Scott is the absolute graveyard for coaches. Should Scott consider dropping football? What is the issue? Coaching? Administrative support? Lack of talent? Something else?

It is certainly woeful and I feel for the kids that practice hard and want to win.

Until Kenton County drops open enrollment, Scott football will be in trouble.

 

BTW, the new field looks wonderful.

With the new facility, I think they will attract some coaches if they want them.

They have had some decent coaches. The commitment from the top to bottom isn't there.

Don't they have a good boys soccer team? When a school that size is successful in soccer usually football takes a hit.

That's the stock answer, and it's just not true. The number of kids who opt out of Scott for SK or Dixie can be counted on one hand. Scott needs to shut it down and channel the efforts and funds elsewhere.

Man, I honestly do not think it has anything to do with open enrollment. Scott seems to have no trouble with success in the other sports. I believe there have been a few star athletes living in the Kenton County school district that decided to attend public schools outside that district. That would seem like a bigger issue than open enrollment. And to be honest, whether it's open enrollment or transfer, we're not talking about a a lot of kids.

This is not some single "A", disadvantaged school we're discussing here, this is a 5 A, very well funded school. Not sure why they continue to struggle in football, but guessing its a combination of all of the above?? Sounds like they can't blame the facilities anymore, and their other programs seem to be very competitive??

 

My suggestion would be to make Brad Carr the football coach!!

No they do not need to drop football. They have guys in that school and that are out playing football because they love it. The problem is not coaches. If you look at the staff before the one that is there now. Most of that staff is at Brossart. Head Coach Matt Reinhardt, Offensive Coordinator Ashley Moser, Defensive Coordinator Craig Collinsworth, Mark Tobler, Shawn Ford, Tommy Roel, and former Scott player Tony Deck are all former Scott coaches. Former Scott head coach Casey Fisk is at Holy Cross doing a fine job. Coaching is not the issue. The main problem in that school is the Administration at the top. They have a principal that puts his nose in things he shouldn't. I understand that you are the principal at the school but if you know nothing about sports ecspecially football then leave the football to the coaches and worry about School issues only. Thats the reason there is an Athletic Director to take care of issues that deal with sports.

For the knowledgeable Scott supporters, how many players/athletes are there walking the halls that aren't playing football? Are the best athletes focusing on one sport and not playing football?

IMO, the best football players in the school are on the team. There's not a better football player than Scotty Campbell walking the hallway, Scotty's on the team. There's not a better lineman than Mike Sherrard or Chris Rothfuss walking the halls, Mike and Chris are on the team. Now there may be better football players "walking the halls" than the Sophomores and Freshmen the Varsity are forced to depend on. The problem is not open enrollment or the coaching staff. The problem is getting enough kids within the school to come out and play football. With a legacy of losing its tough to get kids committed to a sport that requires so much time and hard work. Here's hoping that the new facilities help change that.

This is far from true. What was the story when SK and Scott were both bad at football?

I don't know the situation at Scott but I do know for a 100% positive that dropping football (or any H.S. sport) is never the answer. Everyone involved should sit down together and workout what needs to be done to help the situation just like any group does when they are struggling with something. Communication by all parties is key to fixing any problem and the next step is give and take which means support for the coaches from the administrators and also support for the administrators from the coaches. It all boils down to how bad does the whole group want to see football get better. IMHO!
