Have not heard of any transfers into Scott. I could see Campbell County with Russell coaching there and these young men being advised by the same person who helped land Foster at Newport last year.

Could be the second year in a row that Holy Cross' admission standards have reaped rewards for Russell.

Those who know both Dontel and Kevon have said for years that Dontel will be much better than Kevon and is a mirror image of cousin Greg Rice. He just really has a great feel for the game and his size allows him to do a lot o different things at both ends of the court. In Booher's system, he will shine. Dontel's mid range game makes him very tough. Try to defend him closely and he'll use his size, quickness, and athleticism to get by you...try to play off him and he'll hit a jumper over you. Sky is the limit for this kid if he continues to work hard like he has.

 

I was unaware that Stephens and Hoskins left. Their departures will make Holmes very thin inside. Outside of the Rice brothers, they really don't have anyone else with good size.

 

As far as Pitts goes, I've heard he's a combination of Braeon Avery (quickness, athleticism) and Jamel Riley (shooting ability). He could be a huge asset for the Dogs this year if his summer game carries over to the high school level.

That's good to hear. I think he could be a solid role player for the Dogs over the next two years. His game reminds me a lot of Terrance Clark from that 08 team.

 

Doesn't do anything special, but works hard down low at both ends.

It is going to be hard for me to jump on a bandwagon if no one is a clear cut favorite. I look forward to a great seaon in NKY.

I think that Boone County and CovCath could end up being the teams to beat. CovCath will need some time to gel but they finally have some depth. The junior class really compliments the returning seniors. However, my bet is with Boone County with Connor the dark horse.

Do the CCH Colonels have a perimeter threat for '10? Last season's team didn't have a lethal weapon from 19'9" and that's very unusual for a Listerman coached squad. Thelen should almost be unstoppable.

Thelan should be an automatic double double. I am curious to see how things play out without Wellbrock. Will teams be able to double team Thelan more or does his absence create more touches for Thelan? Either way, he will be productive.

CCH does have a couple of threats from the outside particularly Reidinger (Sr.) and Cleves (Jr.). I don't believe that will be their strength but they will compliment Thelen, Connolly, Baker and Arnzen on the inside. They will need time to gel as a unit but if the players are used correctly they can certainly compete for the 9th region crown. The district with Beechwood, Holmes, HC and CCH should be very interesting to say the least. Two teams that are highly competitive will not even make the region.

Newport will always be a threat. As you can see last year they won the 9th region. Juniors last year on the team rarley played varsity time besides the Jones kid. Newport will be good this year. I see them in the top 10. They have a strong class of 7 seniors this year that all can play, and real talented underclass men. Their three big threats will be Jones, Covington, and Hinkel who is a transfer. Their guard play will be good also.

Actually, it is just the opposite. Newport is almost never a threat. They've made it as far as the regional semi-finals, what one time in the last 24 years? I can't remember the last time they won a district title, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to go back almost 20 years.

 

Hardly the stuff perennial contenders are made of.
