Actually, it is just the opposite. Newport is almost never a threat. They've made it as far as the regional semi-finals, what one time in the last 24 years? I can't remember the last time they won a district title, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to go back almost 20 years.

 

Hardly the stuff perennial contenders are made of.

Have to agree with you here as well. In the Ninth Region for instance, there are 19 teams competing. If your team is ranked 10th in the Ninth, they aren't even in the top half of their region. Same is true in just about every region.

CCH does have a couple of threats from the outside particularly Reidinger (Sr.) and Cleves (Jr.). I don't believe that will be their strength but they will compliment Thelen, Connolly, Baker and Arnzen on the inside. They will need time to gel as a unit but if the players are used correctly they can certainly compete for the 9th region crown. The district with Beechwood, Holmes, HC and CCH should be very interesting to say the least. Two teams that are highly competitive will not even make the region.

 

The CCH guards struggled getting Thelen the ball sometimes last year. He is a great player, but, if they can't get the ball in his hands, they won't win.

I didn't realize HAyes was 6'1". He will be a force this year with his speed and leaping ability.

 

Unless he has grown a lot in 3 months he is not 6' 1"
