I asked Coach Montgomery and he said Bellevue went back to the wings in 1991. However they were yellow with black wings until 1998 and then they switched to black helmets with yellow wings.

I thought you were right on this one, but then I saw these photos of the Bellevue team from one of Bellvue's games in 1974. ...learned something new, I suppose.

Beechwood first starting using their current logo around 1978, I think Bellevue last changed theirs around 83 or 84, they just had the players numbers on the helmet before this change. I think Highlands used to have their bird logo on their helmets in the late 70s or early 80s.

I knew begining around 77 they just had numbers on the helmets until they went to the wing.

Bowling Green has had the same helmet for as long as I've been following them. Basic Notre Dame design - gold helmets. I know that once upon a time they had the red, white, and blue water tower that's here in BG on their helmets, but I don't think that's been for more than 25 years.

 

That helmet was just used for the bicentennial year in 1976. The helmets have been gold for as long as I know. Macdon and/or Bulldog probably can tell about the helmets about as far back as anyone. The only real change I know of over the last 30 years is from a grey facemask to a now purple one.

There is a picture in the basement of Bellevue of the 1936 team with the wing. They have changed it but gone back to the wing.

These are the teams in NKY that haven't changed in the past twenty years or so: Beechwood, I know Ru wore the same helmet in the early/mid '80s. I don't know when Bellvue started with the winged helmet but it's been around for some time. Ryle hasn't changed since they opened in '92. Highlands is the only other I can think of that hasn't changed since I've been following football up here.

 

 

We had a B on the helmet untill Charlie Coleman came back in 87 and changed it back to the winged helmets his first year back from Rowan Co.

I am not 100% sure but I think Trinity's logo/symbol on their helmets has been the same since deisgned by assistant cioach Vince Semary in the late 1960s. The wrapped-around hand represents (I hope I have the order right)..... Pride, Loyalty, Discipline and Achievement. Vince was an assistant under Jim Kennedy who led the Shamrocks to their first state championship in the 1968 season. Vince was a memeber of Charlie Bradshaw's "Thin Thirty" at UK and opened an art studio in Texas after he got of coaching.

Delaware began using the "winged" helmet design in 1951, and has used it continuously ever since, with only a few changes to the facemask color and perhaps some slight modifications to the shades of blue and gold having been made during these five decades. The change from a darker blue to a nearly royal blue in 2004 is the most substantial change to the blue color of which I am aware.

I was getting ready to say the early 1950s. The first coaching book I ever read was an old Delaware Wing-T book that my HS coach gave me, and it talked about their history too.

Right now I'm looking at a Beechwood yearbook from 79 that shows the 78 Bellevue team with numbers on the side of their helmets. :sssh:

The oldest photos I have are from when my grandfather played for the old Heidleburg Brewery team, I think they played in Ludlow? The photo was from about 1930.
