These are the teams in NKY that haven't changed in the past twenty years or so: Beechwood, I know Ru wore the same helmet in the early/mid '80s. I don't know when Bellvue started with the winged helmet but it's been around for some time. Ryle hasn't changed since they opened in '92. Highlands is the only other I can think of that hasn't changed since I've been following football up here.

Tates Creek has had the interlocking TC for as long as I can remember, with the white helmets, maroon facemask and maroon stripes down the middle. I'm guessing all the way back to when Roy Walton was the head man there, too. I've always thought their look was one of the sharper ones in the state that seems to go unnoticed.

 

It's been 20-30 years at least for Corbin also, hasn't it, maybe even longer? The silver/gray helmets with the white "C" inside a red oval (same look as the Green Bay Packers "G", just a C)

 

Corbin has had this helmet for quite some time. Around 1998 is when they went from flat grey to the metallic silver helmet. In 1996 Corbin went with HOUNDS on the helmets like the old NY Giants logo. They were solid silver in 98. When Coach Jewell took over, he brought back the traditional Corbin C that has been there for as long as I can remember.

Interestingly, the "Winged Helmet" was first introduced in 1932 by Fritz Crisler, the new head coach at Princeton. He later took a new coaching job at the University of Michigan, where he incorporated the same design.

 

I guess Bellevue wasn't far behind.

That is what I found as well. Coach David Nelson took over in 1950 and implemented the Wing T offense and also began using the Winged Helmet. Nelson played college football where? And for who? He played at the University of Michigan for Coach Crisler who first used the Winged Helmet at Princton and brought it to Michigan. Nelson also used the Winged design at every college he coached at (Hillsdale College, Harvard, Maine and Delaware).

 

Interestingly also, I found that Bellvue High School in Washington State also used the Winged Helmet for some time.

I didn't even notice the name of the coach. Now it's all starting to make since, Crisler Arena is name after their football coach, that's a bit odd.

Beechwood first starting using their current logo around 1978, I think Bellevue last changed theirs around 83 or 84, they just had the players numbers on the helmet before this change. I think Highlands used to have their bird logo on their helmets in the late 70s or early 80s.
