Louisville Holy Cross and Desales . Not a lot of love in that rivalry ....

Biggest and oldest rivalry in the state hands down.

I thought Mayfield vs. PT (?) was within the same number of years. Of course I could be wrong.

I'd love to say East and West Carter but the games are rarely any good. But when they are close the games are alot of fun.

Dayton vs Bellevue

Bingo. Even on the basketball court this is a big rivalry.

Who is Conner's big "rival" game now? Is it still Bonne? Ryle? Dixie?

It's actually 19 years younger. It is the second oldest rivalry in Kentucky. The series began in 1911. The oldest rivalry in Kentucky is actually between Louisville Male vs. DuPont Manual. That series began in 1892.

I agree these two teams seems to keep the rival well after they graduate... (in a fun and competitive way)

Across the state there a multitude of natural inner-county rivalries which exist that are just as huge locally but do not get the statewide recognition as other high profile games. The Tilghman/Mayfield rivalry is unique because they are not from the same county and compete in different classes.

The Carter County rivalry has gone soft. During the 80s and 90s it was nasty. Now everyone is too friendly, but I guess that could be a good thing.

A relatively modern rivalry started with the realignment:

Boyle County vs. Lexington Catholic.

Regular season matches have determined home site for playoff match-up. So every game has something on the line. The regular season games have been within 1 TD/EP each year.

Scores in regular season games 2007-2009: 18-14 (LC), 14-11 (BC) and 21-13 (BC), respectively.

I agree with this. I'm glad this rivalry got renewed and is now stronger than ever.

1998: Lexington Catholic defeated Boyle County 44-17 in the regular season and 28-13 in the post season.

1999: Boyle County defeated Lexington Catholic 29-21 in the regular season and 21-17 in the post season.

2000: Boyle County defeated Lexington Catholic 16-14 in the regular season and 18-16 in the post season.

2004: Lexington Catholic defeated Boyle County 43-42.

When these two teams meet up it is usually a tight hard fought game. It is a very heated rivalry.

If memory serves those '99 and '00 Lex Cath teams only lost 2 games each year. All four losses were to Boyle County.

Since my first hand experience only goes back to 2006 I had to look it up.

1999: 29-21 and 21-17 BC wins both - LC undefeated otherwise

2000: 16-14 and 18-16 Ditto

So your memory is just fine!

Beechwood and NCC

Beechwood and Cov Cath

I'd agree hands down on the Beechwood/Cov Cath rivalry. I grew up going to Cov Cath games from the time I was a toddler, and until the time my older brother started at Cov Cath when I was in my early teens, I would have told you that the Beehwood/Cov Cath rivalry was bigger than Highlands/Cov Cath.

As a credit to Beechwood's program, I think they create rivalries for themselves all over the place. Even if it's not a "rivalry game" to them, it almost always seems that way to their opponents. That being said, I'd put Beechwood's list of rivals as: Bellevue, New Cath, Ludlow, and Cov Cath.
