August 6, 201016 yr :lol: Of course using UKMF's simplified stat Michael Young has produced more than Pujols or Votto so far this year. His version is not accepted as a valid stat anymore by most.
August 6, 201016 yr You're sadly mistaken if you think Dunn is the reason the Reds weren't a better team. Never said that; lack of pitching was clearly the reason. But he didn't really make them any better, either. The fact they are thriving in his absence says a lot to me.

August 6, 201016 yr Author Now I will admit, I'm using a much more simplistic formula than the almight SABREmetrics....RBIs+Rs-HRs=Runs Produced. I guess that could certainly be one crude way of calculating it but its not the accepted method. It doesnt take into account things like OBP%/total bases/slg%/ballpark factor.
August 7, 201016 yr It is absolutely comical and unbelievable that there is this much hate on Dunn in this thread. WHO CARES IF HE STRIKES OUT!!!! His job is to produce runs and he does that. If you want to look at a real powers hitters stats then look at OPS and when Dunn's starts to drop then complain. And it's also hilarious how much you all are dismissing the fact that he is a 40/100/100 guy. VERY FEW players accomplish that in a career and you can almost mark it down for him. Oh noooooo he doesn't hit sac flies...when that's the biggest thing you have to complain about then you are just looking for stuff to complain about and show just how biased you are against him. I agree that he is a liability on defense and if you are going to complain about something then complain about that, but that is why he played left. And when he plays first he really isnt a problem at all. And lol at everyone who is saying that one of the reasons the Reds are better this year is because he isn't there. It's not due to the fact that Votto and Phillips are having career years or the fact that Rolen has rejuvenated his career. Let's also forget that we have more pitching than we know what to do with and our minor league staff right now is almost as good as the pitching staffs that Dunn had when he was here. I like Adam Dunn, but I'm really not even that big of a Dunn fan. The hate in this thread is just ridiculous and it's by numerous people. I love Gomes and he is having a career year, but I would sure love to have Dunn hitting 5th right now. Even with Gomes' career year, Dunn is doing better in EVERY major category. Please find better arguments than saying that Dunn can't hit a sac fly, strikes out to much, or is a bad influence/example(which there is no proof of) on the rest of the team.

August 7, 201016 yr Dunn's career numbers ... .252 BA, .382 OBP, .524 SLP, .906 OPS with RISP ... .231 BA, .413 OBP, .477 SLP, .890 OPS with runner on 3B and less than two outs ... .292 BA, .429 OBP, .572 SLP, 1.001 OPS According to baseball-reference.com, his career stats are better in at-bats in close games than in games where the margin is more than four runs. In 338 plate appearances with a runner on 3B and less than two outs, he has 26 sac flies ... so I would say the 0-for-65 streak is a little fluky. I would say that some of you guys have cloudy memories or are just a bit biased ... Done.... Of course using UKMF's simplified stat Michael Young has produced more than Pujols or Votto so far this year. His version is not accepted as a valid stat anymore by most. And DONE!!! Admit it boys, it's simply personal.
August 7, 201016 yr Author I've said from the beginning that its a taste/style issue. His seeming indifference doesn't appeal to some. His Ks frustrate some. His 6'6 260 lumbering causes some to say he's not hustling. Cool. However, its hard to argue that despite flaws he does what is the #1 job of an offensive player. He produces runs.
August 7, 201016 yr Done.... And DONE!!! Admit it boys, it's simply personal. Incorrect. It's not personal at all. All my dealings with Dunn as a person have been outstanding. But it doesn't change the fact that his die is cast as a stat-stuffer for losing teams.
August 7, 201016 yr Incorrect. It's not personal at all. All my dealings with Dunn as a person have been outstanding. But it doesn't change the fact that his die is cast as a stat-stuffer for losing teams. So Cincy and Washington??? You could put the best position player of all time and the best pitcher of all time on almost all of those teams he was on and they most likely still wouldn't have made the playoffs.
August 9, 201016 yr I was never a big Dunn fan because it felt like he had no real intention of trying to get better. Yeah, he will give you homers, RBI's and draw walks, but his strikeout total, his defense and what seemed like a lack of ever doing the little things got to me. With that said, it would be interesting to see what he could do if he was on a really good team and surrounded by great or quality hitters. Just for fun, here is the Reds lineup on August 6th, 2006, this was the last time the Reds were truly in any kind of playoff hunt this late in the year. These names should bring back some memories. Phillips Hatteberg Griffey Encarnacion Dunn Ross Denorofia Clayton Lohse started that day, the Reds lost which dropped them to 57-54 on the year. Love that lineup. How'd the Reds finish that season. And what kind of prodigious numbers did the dynamic duo produce in the stretch run for the playoffs?? No one needs to answer. We all know the answer. haha. Oh yeah Dunner played injured. waaah!
August 9, 201016 yr Author . Oh yeah Dunner played injured. waaah! Games played by Dunn in his last 5 years: 161 160 160 152 158
August 9, 201016 yr You claim to be a Red Sox fan--so you should know that a lot of the Sox personnel decisions are made using those SABREmetrics......and they have been pretty successful using them. The RBI+Rs-HR formula very much favors guys that score a lot of runs and don't hit a lot of homeruns. Guys like Mauer and Pujols are going to look good no matter what version of runs produced you use. However, you take a leadoff hitter that scores 100 runs and hits 5 homers they only have to drive in 65 to match a guy like Dunn. For instance, using the simplistic version Michael Young has produced 122 runs, Albert Pujols 119 and Joey Votto 121. He's a nice player, but is he in their class as a run producer? We know the answer to that one. At least try to use valid stats. I know the Sox use Sabremetrics quite a bit, but that doesn't mean I have to take it as the end all be all way of determining a players productivity levels. And yes, I realize there are flaws in the method I was using, which is why I stated, the formula I was using, and how it's much more simplistic. The same arguement you use about Michael Young compared to Pujols and Votto can be used with Dunn....Would you really rather have Dunn than Pujols or Votto as your teams primary run producer? I know I wouldn't.
