July 22, 201016 yr To answer your question there is a legitimate reason in regards to the D-1 issue, but in saying that I've not been given the ok to disclose it publicly. The kid is a D-1 talent or the schools mentioned on here would not have expressed the interest that was expressed. These are all legit situations from the Kentucky courtship to Duquesne getting involved.
July 22, 201016 yr Well let's compare the two teams: PG- Ethan Faulkner versus Mike Jones Junior---I take Faulkner without a doubt 2 guard-Evan Faulkner versus Casey Lester-Got to take Faulkner again, Casey would have got this pick but after the knee injury he wasn't the same 3 slot-Chris Knipp versus Charles Thomas- Gotta give this too Charles, great high school player, undersized at the D1 level 4 spot- Ferg versus Nathan Blanton--Ferg---end of discussion 5- Timmy Knipp versus Todd Cox--Cox was bigger, stronger but had none of Timmy's athletic gifts--Take Timmy as a sophmore moreI would Cox as a senior. What's your comparison? Granted a healthy Casey Lester would have changed ther situation, he could really play at one point. Still, Harlan managed to get more done on the court ...
July 22, 201016 yr Charles Thomas. He won Mr. Basketball and got a scholarship to Minnesota. He was 6th man on the Final Four team against UK in '97. His first game against us at Cawood in '92 - his Frosh year he went for 36 and 18 rebounds...of course we still won the district that year. They were so good for the next 4 or 5 years though. Mike Jones, Casey Lester, Todd Cox...all were 1st Team All State at some point during the next 4 years. Thanks for the fill-in-the blank Former Cawood Trojan!!
July 22, 201016 yr I saw Jonathan play many games, and not just at Elliott County. He did very well against top flite AAU competition and was plenty quick enough to get inside and finish as well as his known shooting ability. Is he as athletic as Bledsoe formerly of KY...no, but Jonathan is not talking about the NBA either as far as I know. There are a LOT of undervalued players like him who would be good 4-year players at D1 schools, but those players too often get passed up at the mid-major level for transfer students from other programs. I am happy for Jonathan and hopes he enjoys the college and the basketball experience.

Never watched EC play, only read about them so I couldn't make a comparison. I would be hard pressed to not take Jones over many PG's in the state that year. Charles was nearly unstoppable on the HS level, so that is a no brainer. Casey was really good and I don't think he hurt his knee until he went to Berea - could be wrong. Todd was a hoss down low, not a great work ethic in HS. He played with us at Cawood in '92 and then left for Harlan after that season because of some problems that went on. July 29, 201016 yr A lot of talk about "hype" on here, but out of the hundreds of kids in Kentucky who play high school basketball and graduate every year, and the few dozen who go on to compete at various levels in college, only a dozen or so actually receive "full rides" at any level. Whether D-I, D-II or NAIA, a full ride is a big deal and typically separates the cream from the rest of the crop. A full ride at any level pretty much invalidates hype. It's no secret that most college coaches jobs depend upon their success on the court. It is important they reserve scholarship allowances for the players they believe will best help them get the job done. The fact that Ferg was able to sit out for a full year with little more than pick up games here and there, and still merit enough respect to pick up a full ride says a lot about his skills. One thing that cannot be overhyped is the character, quality and work ethic of this fine young man. They don't make 'em any better. No one can deny that his daddy loves him either. Ferg will continue to be a success on the court, and in his life beyond. I wish Ferg nothing but the best and look forward to seeing him compete again (and maybe even coach some day.) :thumb:

November 16, 201015 yr I'm not 100% certain, but I seem to recall something about not becoming eligible until sometime in December due to transfer issues. The last I heard, Ferg is at the school working hard to be ready for when he gets the greenlight. Looking at the official roster you linked, I only see 11 players listed.
