Who is Jesse Jackson?

Jesse Jackson thinks he is calling out hate-mongers, but all his words ever do is stir up controversy. He thinks he is bridging the gap between cultures but all things like this could do is tear us apart. Dan Gilbert's words were alot of things but they were not racist or reminiscent of a slave master IMO.

Jackson's message and work was crucial to the Civil Right's movement and on through the mid-80s. The problem is, Jackson is still viewing life through a 1965 prism. He knows nothing else but racial tactics. While America still has a way to go, many strides have been made to reach racial equality. Jackson has made no strides nor do I think he wants to.

Refer to post 14 and thats the reason why he has made no strides in my opinion.

Not that I agree with Jesse, but he's talking about the comments that Dan Gilbert had, and not the Cavs fans.

 

I understand that, but weren't similar things said about Brett Favre? I'm noit sure if it was as sinister as what Gilbert did, but wouldn't his philosophy fit in Favre's situation also?

I agree, more or less. I think that these days, more than anything, Jackson & Sharpton do more to perpetuate the problems of the first half of the 20th century through their refusal to acknowledge any change.

Nothing shocks me from Jesse's mouth. He does not speak for most of the African Americans I know, but will always get the attention.

 

The bottom line is:

1. Lebron handled the change in the wrong way by not telling the Cavs first. The fundraising idea was a good one, but I thought he handled it like a 25 year old and it has damaged his image. At least tell your team of 7 years you are going another direction first. I thought it was absolutely the wrong way to handle the situation. It was his choice, and all in all, I think a good one considering who he will be playing with, but he went about the wrong way. It was bad.

2. As bad as Lebron handled it, Gilbert looks even worse. He acted like a spurned school boy who just found out his girlfriend is dating somebody else. I am waiting for him to threaten to kick Pat Riley's butt for cuckolding him. He showed absolutely no class or restraint in his comments. If Lebron was such a quitter, loser and one who they had to cover for all these 7 years, then why did Gilbert offer him the max contract to stay?

3. Jesse Jackson equating it to 'slavery' is a joke. Slavery was a horrible part of our countries past and to equate this situation, which is a multi million dollar 25 year old kid who had options, either of which payed him millions to play basketball, would be laughable if it weren't so sad. I am pretty sure that slaves did not have these options, ... but then again, maybe I just read my history books wrong.
