Jon Voights Letter To Obama

Featured Replies

I have no problem with celebrities voicing their political opinions. It's perfectly within their right to use their abilities and connections to make their voice heard. What I do dislike, however, is when so many of media-circus-following, Entertainment-Tonight-watching, "I refuse to exercise my ability to think freely" types eating up everything celebrities say just because they thought their last album or latest movie was great.

Just because George Clooney and Jon Voight can speak (and apparently write) decently well, doesn't mean that the words they speak or write amount to jack.

I don't mind if anyone shares their beliefs, whether they corrrespond to my own or not. It's just that I'm not real likely to take the views of an actor, singer, etc. terribly seriously.

I'm much more interested in those that are out there doing something; e.g. Kevin Costner and the "oil cleanup technology" with which he is involved.

And once again the self-righteous right presumes to know God's politics.

Wow... I'm flattered to be identified as a representative of the Right... although, I'm not sure where the "self-righteous" part comes in... there are lots of folks who think my worldview is correct... it ain't just me...

I don't take your remarks personally... I'd be pretty bummed too if I'd voted for Obama... heck, I'm bummed and I didn't vote for him... I can understand why you feel so glum.

I could be wrong, but that response seems to reinforce Trinity alum's comment.

If you knew the real person behind the Fastbreak avatar, you would be laughing out loud as you read my previous post.

Merely demonstrating absurdity by being absurd.

I could take the not so veiled insult to heart and respond in kind... but life's too short... and I just can't bring myself to being all bitter and depressed... even with Obama and liberals running the show... for now... :D

Bud Kilmer?

I wanted to ask why he didn't finish the letter with "C'mon now. Let's go get that title!" but I didn't know if anyone would get it!

I've listened to comments about "Hollyweird" and how that they need to just act and leave the politics alone. Now Jon Voight agrees with the "other" side and suddenly the situation is different, and we should listen...that is hypocrisy at its best.

The difference is that I'm not going to belittle Voight's opinion (since I do, indeed, disagree with most of it) and I won't decide to shut him down and quit watching his movies.

I don't boycott movies of Penn because of his political views, I boycott his movies because I think he's horrible at acting. If I boycotted movies because of left-wing political views I wouldn't be able to watch hardly any movies.

I enjoy seeing the shoe on the other foot for a change, if that makes me a hypocrite, I gladly accept that label in this case.

Sort of like the self-righteous left presuming they know what's best for everyone else. :sssh:

I don't watch Sean Penn movies either, mostly because he doesn't act in the type of movies that I enjoy. I've watched a few more of Voight's films, and he is okay as an actor, as far as I am concerned. I do have to shake my head, as he has guzzled a gallon or two of the "Obama is evil" kool-aid that so many are pouring down people's throats.

I will, however, turn the Dixie Chicks up loudly in my car. :D

"In my 27 years at establishment I've brought 2 State Titles...and 27 District Championships...Count 'em!!!!"

I just threw up in my mouth.

You would think if he had 27 district championships he'd have more than 2 state titles, if his teams were any good, no?
