June 12, 201016 yr Maybe the Reds will hire this book you speak so highly of to manage next year... If the Reds were managed by that book , they would be 40-22 right now... Plus, instead of four million a year, you'd only be out a few bookmarks. I think the book could lead them to the division title.
June 12, 201016 yr I think Dusty made the right call by having Bruce swing away. Now that isn't saying that Bruce shouldn't be able to bunt but from all of the statistics listed it doesn't sound like it is something that he can do very well. He's a pull hitter and with the way he has been swinging the bat I'd say he had as good a chance of moving the runner by swinging as he did by trying to bunt. What would have really gotten Dusty second guessed is if Bruce had popped up the bunt or went 0-2 trying to get it down and then struck out. The textbook situation is to bunt but the batter has to be considered also. I understand Dusty's thinking there. Just sad that you can't trust one of your regulars to get a bunt down. Why not make him practice it until he can do it well? Dusty just didn't trust Jay enough there to make the textbook move.

June 12, 201016 yr Who said it wasn't on Bruce? It's obviously a weakness in his game, and with that considered you send him up there to swing... RISP isn't exactly Bruce's strength this season. Throw in a .176 avg with men on 1st and 2nd, well just not a good situation for Jay. Hopefully they bounce back tonight.

It's not Dusty's fault if he has players that can't lay down a SAC bunt. Bruce's ineptness as a bunter more or less force the hand of the manager.
