June 10, 201016 yr Rhodes, without a doubt, is an all-star. He has a .33 ERA. Phillips & Rolen could both be All Stars. Votto should be, as well. The problem with #19 is that he'll have to overcome the popular fan vote of Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols, Ryan Howard, et. al. Phillips has to compete with Kelly Johnson and Martin Prado for the reserve spot as Utley is almost certainly going to be the popular vote starter. Votto is currently putting up very similar numbers to Howard, Gonzalez, and Glaus, not to mention Pujols.
June 10, 201016 yr Only 1 1B is selected by the fans, and Votto deserves it over Prince and Howard IMO. Look at Howard's numbers again...Votto may have a slight edge, but it's extremely small... Howard: .290 avg 10 HR 43 RBI Votto: .309 avg 11 HR 38 RBI Also, Charile Manuel is the manager, so if it's close, you can bet he's looking out for his guys.
June 10, 201016 yr I talked to two scouts about Aaron Harang – one from the National League and another from the American League– both were impressed last night. “That’s the best I’ve seen him in two years,” one said. “The only thing he should do is junk that curveball,” the other said. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/2010/06/10/harang-impresses-scouts/ Well you can eliminate most teams because the article says both teams can afford them. I imagine that would leave New York or LA in the NL, and Boston, NY and maybe the Angels in the AL. Philly, Detroit, and the Chicagos....

June 10, 201016 yr I don't recall a non-closer LH specialist ever making the all-star team. While he is a LH specialist, he'll have thrown close to 40 innings by the break at his current pace....Not sure that technically would make a specialist.
June 10, 201016 yr I don't recall a non-closer LH specialist ever making the all-star team. I can't either, but how in the world can you leave off a guy who has given up only 1 run in 27 innings? Jose Valverde will likely be an AL AS. He has a .37 ERA, but 12 saves. He has thrown in 4 more games, but has thrown 3 less innings.

June 10, 201016 yr Philly, Detroit, and the Chicagos.... I seriously doubt either Chicago team is going to take on salary right now.
June 10, 201016 yr I seriously doubt either Chicago team is going to take on salary right now. The only way Boston would be interested in Harang is if Beckett is out past the All-Star break, and even then I don't think there would be a great deal of interest on their part. That narrows it down a little bit more. Of course with the AL East playing the NL West in interleague play the AL scout might just have been there to get a scouting report on the Giants.
June 10, 201016 yr I think a lot of Stubbs. The young man brings a lot to the table. I really like his ability to hit to the opposite field. He will consistently be a .280 hitter one day. As he begins to cut down on his K's and put the ball in play more, watch out! The guy is a gazelle. Stubbs has a very long swing. When he cuts this down and learns to put the ball in play a little more deeper in the count he should become a much better hitter. The kid can flat out run. I'd like to see them work with him more on bunting and who's to say they aren't. His speed is a real weapon.
June 10, 201016 yr Stubbs bunted for a base last night? I agree with you though EZ, the more that they work on him in bunting for a hit, the better for the Reds. Glad to see the Reds even up the series with the Giants. Hopefully they can take 2-3 from the Royals. And everyone should thank the Dodgers lol.
June 10, 201016 yr Went to the game today and really enjoyed the action. Other than Leake finally having an offday there was not much negative to say about the game other than Joey Votto having another brain cramp and getting doubled off first with only one out. Massett and Resario gave us a little excitement but Herrera did okay and Coco handled the 8, 9, 1 hitters like he is supposed to. It was good to see the bullpen throw strikes and Leake was probably overdue for a bad game. Here's looking for a sweep of the Royals without their use of a DH. Just looking at some stats on the Royals and thought I'd share this with you guys. I don't think for one minute that this will be an easy weekend but we need to win 3 before the Dodgers come to town for 3 and then a West coast swing with 3 in Seattle and 3 in Oakland. West coast swings are never easy for the Reds or anybody for that matter. Ask the Cardinals. Friday Luke Hochevar vs. Bronson Arroyo Hochevar 5-4 4.74 era Saturday Brian Bannister vs Johnny Cueto Bannister 6-3 4.50 era Sunday Zack Greinke vs Sam Lecure/Homer Bailey Greinke 1-8 4.05 era (Greinke never has gotten a lot of run support from his team but was the AL Cy Young winner last year and can flat out pitch). The lineup we could expect should look like this: 1. Scott Podsednik LF .288 18 stolen bases 2. Jason Kendall C .289 3. Billy Butler 1B .323 (good young player) 4. Jose Guillen RF .251 13 HRs (Red's fans should be real familiar with Jose as we traded him for Aaron Harang a few years ago) 5. Alberto Callaspo 3B .277 7 HRs 6. Mike Aviles 2B .304 7. Mitch Maier CF .261 8. Yunesky Bettancourt SS .280 9. Pitcher Guillen has been mostly DHing with David Dejesus in RF so expect Guillen to maybe only play 2 of the games. Overall the Royals are .276 hitting team and the team era is 4.78 with opposing batters hitting .269 The Royal closer is Joakim Soria with 13 saves and a 2.49 era. Other members of the bullpen look like this: Kyle Farnsworth 2.70 era Robinson Tejada 3.94 era Dusty Hughes 3.74 era Blake Wood 3.38 era Kane Texeira 5.23 era Victor Marte 4.66 era
June 11, 201016 yr Stubbs bunted for a base last night? I agree with you though EZ, the more that they work on him in bunting for a hit, the better for the Reds. Glad to see the Reds even up the series with the Giants. Hopefully they can take 2-3 from the Royals. And everyone should thank the Dodgers lol. Especially when Pablo Sandoval is at the hot corner behind the bag
June 11, 201016 yr Leake was probably overdue for a bad game. He has been great, so yeah he can have a bad game every now and then. Heck, the kid is a rookie. But, I am glad that the guys were able to pick him up and he didn't get a loss today.
June 11, 201016 yr Nice win for the home team on Thursday. Hopefully, they can take 3 from the Royals this weekend.
