Truly awful. Hopefully Bud Selig and MLB will do the unprecedented and do the right thing and reverse the call and give him the perfect game. I really hope they do this for both Galarraga and Jim Joyce.

As much as I would have loved to see the guy get a perfect game, and he certainly deserved one...I absolutely hope that they do not do that. Reversing the call should absolutely not be an option.

Look at the 58 second mark of the video. He is out by 2-4 feet. I can't wait to hear Jim Joyce talk about this one. At the end of the video does the ball bobble around in his glove a little bit? Nobody on ESPN mentioned that at all.

I really want to watch the umpire's post game press conference... A great catch to get the first out of the inning, but it'll definitely be overshadowed by that call.

If he does, he puts his job in serious jeopardy. It's a big no-no in all sports for officials to be commenting on their calls during games. Don't you think you would have heard an official's comments on a controversial call in the past before now if they were permitted to do so?

This was mentioned several times on MLB Tonight after the game. Harold Reynolds was who mentioned it, in fact. Another reason why MLB Network's show is about 100 times better than ESPN's. But that's another story for another time.

Again, I've never known officials to comment on calls -- anybody recall Ed Hochuli commenting about that gag job he pulled in that Chargers-Broncos game a couple years ago? The only comments on calls always comes from league offices, and generally from the director of officiating.

Because something that is so great about sports is the human element. I am okay with changes being made during the game (such as a challenge in an NFL game) but I am not okay with going back and changing a call after the game is over. I think that takes it too far.

The veteran ump regretted it.

"I just cost that kid a perfect game," Joyce said. "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay."

"It was the biggest call of my career," said Joyce, who became a full-time major league umpire in 1989.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland immediately argued the call and was joined by several of his players after the final out. Galarraga was trying to pitch the third perfect game in the majors this season.

A source told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that Joyce came into the locker room following the game and apologized to Galarraga and Leyland personally.

Galarraga (2-1) was in complete control throughout the night. Then Donald's groundball became the flash point of the night, and perhaps the season.
