Cant wear American Flag shirs on Cinco demya, building a mosque by ground zero, let illegal immigrants stay in America, let illegal immigrans sneak into America, states cant make own laws, cnat have christmas trees up in airports because it is against some beliefs, etc. Heck yeah let them build it, show the Islamist we love them and welcome them to come to America, come make a mockery of us all.
May 27, 201016 yr I'd say let the people of New York vote on it. I guess in theory there could be some planning/zoning issues that might make it tough to build on the site. And those laws are traditionally put in place by elected officials, so the people would sort of be voting for it. But I'm not sure a protected 1st Amendment freedom would ever need to be voted on by the citizens. Could the citizens of Lexington not just as easily vote for no Mormon church or Louisville vote against a Methodist church, etc.?

I thought I read all posts and I can't remember one single "limited government supporter" saying the government should not allow the mosque to be built. I do remember some saying it was a bad/stupid idea or the people of NY should decide. Please refer me to the post where someone said the federal government should not allow the mosque be built. It could be said that supposed unlimited government supporters are easily fooled.

It's rather obvious as to why that's not an ideal spot to build a mosque. The fact that Sept. 11 victims' families oppose this is reason enough in my book. Many of them have said that it was an insult to their loved ones memories, I can understand their feelings. Perhaps ultimately it should be up the the victims families to decide.

This country should rise above emotional responses, especially with respect to religious extremists. The Christian extremists in this country have harmed it just as deeply: The Salem Witch Trials Repression of Irish and Italian Catholic Immigrants by the Protestants The bombings of abortion clinics in the name of the Christian faith. The torture and killing of a gay teen. Westboro Baptist Church. The justification of slavery and segregation by Christians. Repression and Oppression are just as deeply harmful, and frankly, much more long-lasting, and much more wide-spread in acceptance.
