N. Ky. Freshman Tournament

VOR-Not sure if you checked out the JV roster as well, several freshman on there. Probably 1/2 soph, 1/2 freshman. Maybe trickle down effect not sure.

I did not check the JV roster but it doesn't surprise me to see freshmen on a JV roster. I would expect that to be true at most schools. I just don't see the point in cutting freshmen in favor of younger players. That doesn't seem good for the program because a lot of freshmen improve quite a bit as the year goes on. On a freshman team at a big school where there might be 30, 40 even 50 try out, I would keep all the freshmen I could, keep them plugged in and practicing with the team to see if they develop. On the other hand, the way things seem to go these days with kids "transferring" schools, you probably need to keep those top tier 8th graders so they stay hopefully at your school. Sure enough if you say I am not letting 8th graders on my freshman team, the kids will go to another school that let's them play.

How are they looking this year? Could they 3 peat? Do they have depth in their pitching staff?

I believe the JV defending champ is Boone, though I could be wrong.

Saw them last night against Highlands (NCC won 8-1 with 4 or 5 in the top of the 7th to break a close game open). They looked good. P #38 twirled 6.1 inn and threw a gem. Changed speeds, mixed it up, threw strikes and worked quickly.

HHS played many of the Frosh that have been playing JV this season (light JV schedule recently and going forward), but pitched 3 kids that have been w/ the Frosh all year (a 7th, a Frosh and an 8th grader).

That is correct.

Newcath freshmen are going for a 3 peat and Boone County's JV are trying to repeat.

Was told this morning that Newcath is 15-3 on the year. All 3 losses by one run. A possible 2nd round match with CovCath would be something to see. NCC beat CovCath 8-3 in their first matchup and CovCath took the last two games by identical 2-1 scores.

Can you provide times and locations of the first round games?

Did this ever get answered? Does the 2d team listed mean home team and should be played at that location? Are there a few locations for multiple games in the 1st round? Any help would be appreciated.

Upper bracket

Cooper vs Boone

Simon Kenton vs Conner

St. Henry vs Ryle

Dixie vs winner of St. Henry vs Ryle

PRAY FOR NO RAIN!

If I read this correctly, 15 teams entered so Dixie gets the only BYE into 2d Round. After 7 1st round games + Dixie, you have 8 in the 2d Rd. Final 4 SAT morning. Championship SAT evening.

I would be very, very surprised if Ryle or Boone has any 8th graders. Conner I am not as sure of. With Cooper building a program, I can understand there being 8th graders.

Ryle has quite a few 8th graders, Trey Martin for one, any others idk but i know there are some more

Upper bracket

Cooper vs Boone 5pm at Boone

Simon Kenton vs Conner 5pm at Sk

St. Henry vs Ryle 4:30pm at st. henry

Dixie vs winner of St. Henry vs Ryle

Lower bracket

Holy Cross vs NewCath 7:15pm @ meinken

Campbell vs Scott 5pm @ campbell Co

Beechwood vs Highlands 5pm at HHS

In looking at the bracket, I would say the Upper Bracket is the tougher one. Boone, Simpn Kenton, Conner, Ryle and Dixie all are very strong and I heard St. Henry is having a good freshman season also. Cooper is also solid.

In the Lower Bracket, CCH, Brossart and New Cath really stand out with Beechwood and Highlands being outside threats to make noise.

Any idea on what the pitching restrictions are since we are looking at possible 4 games in 3 days?
