April 23, 201016 yr Author Chapman's line ended up being solid. Too many walks & a high pitch count, but I'm excited to watch this kid pitch. He'll be up in late May, right or wrong. Aroldis Chapman final line: 5.1 ip, 3 hits, 5 walks, 8 Ks. 95 pitches. His ERA after three starts is 0.60.
April 23, 201016 yr Author I am a big Ryan Hanigan fan & have been since Day 1. I've grown to prefer him over Hernandez. I like the tandem, but Hernandez is making too much money that could be used for an outfield bat. I'm sure westsider or Averagejoe will let us all know he sucks shortly (i.e. he wasn't even drafted; it took him 8 years to get through the minors; he has less than 300 AB's, etc.), but I love the way the kid plays.

You know, I'm not always negative about the Reds ... only when it's warranted. Hanigan isn't a star and won't be, but he's useful, and he appears to bring more to the table at this point than Hernandez is. Hanigan has shown he knows how to get on base, something the Reds dearly need, and by all accounts he's solid defensively. I never understood the Reds' fans fascination with Hernandez last year ... he doesn't have a bat anymore and his defense is average at best. He doesn't do much, if anything, to help the Reds win games.
April 23, 201016 yr Great night at the old ball yard last night. Something a tad different I noticed with the Reds last night. HUSTLE! Every ground ball was ran out at full speed.

There's nothing wrong with Hanigan. The problem is he's best suited as a backup and right now he's probably the better of the Reds 2 catchers. Neither he nor Hernandez is above average overall but at least both have decent plate discipline and know the strike zone. The catching tandem might not be a positive but it is adequate.
