Cunningham Field going from grass to turf!

 

In a major move for Montgomery County High School athletic teams and other entities, the renovation of Cunningham Field began last week.

When the work is completed by Aug. 1 the playing surface will be synthetic turf rather than grass and the amount of potential uses each year will go up by as many as three-fold, according to assistant superintendent Phil Rison, who oversees buildings and grounds as part of his duties.

Now, that is a nice looking field. I had the pleasure of attending a game at Montgomery County several years ago. I thought their stadium was pretty nice then. But, it sure does look much better now.

I went to the Johnson Central game last year the field was really a mess by games end this is great news beautiful school.

The original Recreation Bowl was played at Jones Field in down town Mt. Sterling, the home of the Mt. Sterling Trojans and from 1948 until 1962 it was a one game affair usually late in the season between 2 teams. In 1963 it became a preseason bowl and had 2 games. Montgomery County did not start playing football until 1971. Mt.Sterling and Montgomery County consolidated into one school in 1976 and began playing the Recreation Bowl at Cunningham Field.

I have been so interested in this whole process. The numbers and logo are on the field. I still do not know how this was done. They were spreading the rubber pellets yesterday.

I usually got to see the field everyday and the changes were amazing! The field looks amazing.
