Great news. Nice campus. The field became a slopfest near the end of the season.

Will be a great to go to the Rec Bowl and play. Maybe they can get it back to the way it used to be,

The facilities at Montgomery County are on the same level as any team in the mid south conference. There has been some great football played on the grass that was there, but the turf will look amazing. As i was saying the facilities are more than top notch featuring a football only weight room with 8 power racks, brandnew dumbbells from 5-100 pounds, a 2 year old locker room with all wooden lockers and carpet. Also in the locker room there is a drop down screen and projector for game film. The indians also have 2 practice fields featuring a goal post on one of them, and a carport for shade during water breaks. Coach Gooch has done so much for the program, if you saw things now you wouldn't believe where they were 6 years ago.

Very nice Congratulations!

Bringing it up to somewhat of to par with the basketball arena is a good thing. I was down there a few yrs ago with my daughter for Volleyball Regionals and took a walk through campus and was shocked to not see turf on the ole Rec Bowl field. I played there in 1981 for Highlands against Franklin Simpson. At one point in time the Recreation Bowl was the Granddaddy of the bowl games in KY. It really was the only bowl game and it was a pretigious one to be invited to. I agree with the another poster, it would be neat to get the status of the Rec Bowl back together showcasing KY talent.

I agree with you i remember watching some great rec bowls including Mason County when they had Lofton and Grutza, E-town with Chris Todd, Highlands with Gino G., Boyle County after a state championship. There was also another great player from Lesie County named Tim Couch who ended up being a pretty good player. Last year the rec bowl was only 1 game, Montgomery vs Harrison, this is a far cry from what the game used to be. Montgomery County hosts the Joe B. Hall prep classic in basketball, this is the best day of Kentucky high school basketball, now if the rec bowl can get back to where it was then it can be the best day of high school football in the state.

What do you think it would take to get some of the top teams to play in the rec bowl?

The Rec Bowl and the Kentucky Prep Classic are put on by committees - neither are associated with Montgomery County High. They only rent the facilities from the school. The Prep Classic is put on by Tri-State Sports (Ira Combs), the Rec Bowl is put on by a group of local citizens. It would be great to see the Rec Bowl revamped.

Correct, i knew the Rec Bowl had a committee but i didn't know anything about the Prep Classic. What would the committee have to do to get top teams in the state to come back to the Rec Bowl?

IMO - lot's PR work, knowing the teams, etc The biggest obstacle is the fact that football teams can only play in one bowl game per season, basketball has a whole season of dates available and bb teams can play in multiple tourn

Your local fans will turn out if the hometown team is playing, and even more so if it is a good rival, then it would be nice to have two other good games with teams that have a fan base. The committee has to pay the teams to come to these events, you have got to have the gate receipts to cover your expenses. So top ranked teams don't always bring the fans. Most top teams have a bowl game in their area (or their own) they would rather play in than travel. Clark County was a great game for MC, but they couldn't continue to play here and give up their own gate.

MC has a fantastic facility to host a great event - even if it weren't the top teams, they could have teams with a history of rivalry, etc that could make for a great day of football.

With the installment of the new turf and track, great things will begin to happen over at MCHS. Look for numbers to increase for the football team. Also, Montgomery County has a very young track program (2-3 years old). With the addition of a quality track, look for the track program to improve. These improvments to the facilities will allow MCHS will be able to host track meets, band competitions, and as stated by other posters, bring the Rec Bowl back to the days of old. Can't wait to see it.

Does anyone know which turf they are putting down as in which company's turf they are going with?

A track program will really help - it is a great sport itself and will certainly contribute to the other programs already offered. It is a shame the students had to wait so long for decent facilities to practice on - cudos to those who have participated anyway
