March 29, 201016 yr When I go to the store, am I to have every calorie count memorized, or am I allowed to look on the packaging. Every dang snicker bar in world has the calories on it. How hard is for McDonalds to put a 1500 beside the BigMac on the menu sign? heck, every time I go in there they have changed the menu board so it is not like they are cost conscious when it comes to changing it around. Same for menu's. They change then all the time, now all they have to do is put at most a 4 digit number beside the food. Much ado about nothing. You do not need anything but basic knowledge of what is good for you and what is not. Plus a good dose of exercise will allow you to eat some the so-called bad stuff. Too many are not willing to exercise. People marvel at what I eat and yet I weigh less than what I did in high school, 40 years later. It is because I exercise. I just do not need big brother doing for me, because I can do it myself. I will admit there is a place for government. It is that too many now want government to think for them. I'm a great believer in the power of the individual, but if you are not willing to do it for yourself, well, there are many who are power hungry willing to think for you.

If your eating a burgar with 1500 calories then what does it matter if it has the calorie count on it or not? You obviously don't give crap. Your right, much ado about nothing for them to take the time to write this into the bill. It's dumb and serves no purpose at all.
March 29, 201016 yr As someone who has watched calories and lost 20 pounds in the past two months, I think it's a great idea. I'd like to know if the chicken sandwich at McDonalds has more calories than their fish sandwich. Does the salad at McDonalds have fewer calories than the salad at Wendy's? What about Wendy's fish sandwich? I think it's a great idea. I also think it's being done in response to the frivilous lawsuits filed by fat people who sued because fast food made them fat. They have no excuse now because the calorie counts will be posted. I have no problem with a law that helps people make healthy choices, regardless of what political party proposed and passed it. That's the major problem with our country now. Absolutely! I can't understand not seeing the logic in this move. :thumb:

That's the major problem with our country now. :thumb: I think it's a good idea, but I don't think that the government should mandate it. I also wonder how much $$ this will cost the restaurants, although that sector is one that can probably afford it. It's just the principle of the government forcing their hand that bothers me. As a consumer, I like the idea behind it.
March 29, 201016 yr I understand what you're saying...but to term ANY fast food (outside of perhaps the salads) as "healthy" might be a stretch. Yes, there may be "healthier" choices...but, it's really like choosing the lesser of two evils IMO.Exactly, and these numbers will make that choice possibe for the first time.
March 29, 201016 yr Absolutely! I can't understand not seeing the logic in this move. :thumb: The government is getting involved in yet another area of our lives. It forces restaurants to spend thousands of dollars. There are other ways to disseminate the information. Many (most?) restaurants have pamphlets / booklets containing the health information. This may or may not impact many people. The people who it will definitely impact were able to get the information anyway. With that said, there are also some benefits which could result from it.
March 29, 201016 yr They aren't making the decisions for me. They are assisting me in making my own. Kind of like going to a car dealer and seeing the gas mileage figures posted on the window.:thumb::thumb::thumb:
March 29, 201016 yr Author The government telling me what to eat when I go out is one thingHow far off you think that'll be now that they have their foot in the door of health care? Obama promised transparency . . . Something he doesn't seem to like to deliver on.
March 29, 201016 yr How far off you think that'll be now that they have their foot in the door of health care? Something he doesn't seem to like to deliver on. For the love of God, RTS. You're taking a small thing and stretching to make it tyranny.
March 29, 201016 yr Anyone who is serious about eating health won't eat at McDonalds or Wendys. The only healthy choice with fast food is to not eat it.In a perfect world that would be great. Sometimes, in group situations, it's unavoidable.
March 29, 201016 yr ...at least at the school were I taught. Just another example of people not being responsible for their own actions. How can you be"responsible" when the necessary information is withheld from you?
March 29, 201016 yr Scribe, go to the website, type in "nutrition information," and you can get anything you want. It doesn't need to be on every board and box.Not true of many places.
March 29, 201016 yr Exactly, and these numbers will make that choice possibe for the first time. And sometimes, what people think is healthy, is not. HOW IS MORE KNOWLEDGE TO MAKE AND INFORMED DECISION EVER A BAD THING.
March 29, 201016 yr Author This is actually the best thing in the bill. I applaud it enthusiastically! It gives people choices. You have no idea how hard it is, when you're trying to maintain a healthy weight, to gauge what the best choices are at various restaurants. To suggest that only fat slobs who don't care, visit chain restaurants, is simply ludicrous. These numbers will help considerably, and I can't wait to see them out there. Gotta give the Dems kudos on this one! :thumb: I know exactly how "hard" it is, funny thing is, me and everyone I know were quite able to do so without big daddy government sticking their nose in. Just more stupid legislation by the Dems, costly and stupid, that is. You also seemed to miss my point about irresponsible people, and calling them fat slobs is a bit uncalled for if you ask me. The point is that people that frequent fast food chains, for the most part (by that I mean the overwhelmingly vast majority of them) aren't going to pay any attention to it all. It's wasted money, again.
March 29, 201016 yr Author For the love of God, RTS. You're taking a small thing and stretching to make it tyranny.I don't consider this health care law a small thing. If you do, WOW is all I can say....
