March 29, 201016 yr As someone who has watched calories and lost 20 pounds in the past two months, I think it's a great idea. I'd like to know if the chicken sandwich at McDonalds has more calories than their fish sandwich. Does the salad at McDonalds have fewer calories than the salad at Wendy's? What about Wendy's fish sandwich? I think it's a great idea. I also think it's being done in response to the frivilous lawsuits filed by fat people who sued because fast food made them fat. They have no excuse now because the calorie counts will be posted. I have no problem with a law that helps people make healthy choices, regardless of what political party proposed and passed it. That's the major problem with our country now. Scribe, go to the website, type in "nutrition information," and you can get anything you want. It doesn't need to be on every board and box.
March 29, 201016 yr Scribe, go to the website, type in "nutrition information," and you can get anything you want. It doesn't need to be on every board and box. On the other hand, what real harm is there that it is? Another thing to get up in arms about that is actually a GOOD thing, IMO.
March 29, 201016 yr On the other hand, what real harm is there that it is? Another thing to get up in arms about that is actually a GOOD thing, IMO. Nutrition information is a good thing. Requiring a substantial cost to do what can be done just as effectively and less expensively for the business is a bad thing. You all know what RTS' argument is and it is valid. This is government regulation that is unnecessary and ultimately the cost will be passed along to the consumer, and I think you and I both know that the average consumer of low cost and low nutrition items tend to be demographically poorer and people of color. Just because the government can do something doesn't mean they should.

Imagine how much the drive thru's will be backing up. If I'm behind Scribe and he's reading all that calorie stuff, it might take me longer to get my #3 (Double Quarter Pounder with cheese, no onions with a diet to drink). I'm not for it!

March 29, 201016 yr Why are restaurants with under 20 stores exempt? Why shouldn't the Brown Hotel be required to print the nutrition information for the roast spring lamb with mint jelly and rosemary potatoes, grilled asparagus with cream hollandaise, chocolate lava cake with clotted cream and fresh rasberries and bottle of argentinian cabernet?

I don't know. I didn't write the legislation.
March 29, 201016 yr Anybody else getting hungry right now? Yeah...I was...then I went to the employee cafeteria and now my diet is safe for another day.

The cost spread out over twenty stores . . . How many customers does The Brown have in a day compared to Fridays.
March 29, 201016 yr The cost spread out over twenty stores . . . How many customers does The Brown have in a day compared to Fridays. Most chains are owned by small regional or sectional corporations. I understand the business reason, but where is the equal protection part of the legislation?
March 29, 201016 yr Common sense is lost when people are too lazy to do what they should be doing for theirselves, instead of asking the government to do it. Another thread debated about what was wrong with education. This thread is an example of what is wrong with education, too many people who are too lazy to do their own research, too lazy to read and too lazy to think for theirselves. Maybe this is why liberals believe they are smarter than everyone and have to think for them. The government telling me what to eat when I go out is one thing . . . the government saying stores can help in making me aware so that I make a good decision when I go out to eat is a whole 'nother thing. The only valid point being made is that some businesses will have to revamp their menus some because hopefully people will be making better/healthy decisions. No freedoms have been breached or rights taken away. Obama promised transparency . . .
March 29, 201016 yr I don't consider myself lazy. How is the view from your lofty perch anyway? I'm speaking from solid ground. This discussion is classic of the debates on this site, those who believe in people being resposible for theirselves and those who need government to do even minor things for them. This is also a classic example of some not being informed on their on. With such info so easily available, but yet they need someone to do it for them. It then leads individuals doing nothing for theirselves and becoming dependent on the government to do it for them.

When I go to the store, am I to have every calorie count memorized, or am I allowed to look on the packaging. Every dang snicker bar in world has the calories on it. How hard is for McDonalds to put a 1500 beside the BigMac on the menu sign? heck, every time I go in there they have changed the menu board so it is not like they are cost conscious when it comes to changing it around. Same for menu's. They change then all the time, now all they have to do is put at most a 4 digit number beside the food. Much ado about nothing.
March 29, 201016 yr We did have to pass it to find out what's in it. I can hardly wait for the next hidden agenda to surface. No, people that eat this stuff is going to continue to eat it no matter how many warnings or menu labeling boards they put in restaurants. Irresponsible people don't care. This is actually the best thing in the bill. I applaud it enthusiastically! It gives people choices. You have no idea how hard it is, when you're trying to maintain a healthy weight, to gauge what the best choices are at various restaurants. To suggest that only fat slobs who don't care, visit chain restaurants, is simply ludicrous. These numbers will help considerably, and I can't wait to see them out there. Gotta give the Dems kudos on this one! :thumb:
