This game could have been at Madison Square Gardens and it would not have made a difference. Clark County's game management and shot selection is what lost them the game, not the arena or the student section.

You know, you could turn back the clock to 1979 when Rupp Arena hosted its first state tournament, and in your quote, replace where you type Louisville (in bold) with Lexington, and replace where you type Rupp Arena (in bold)with Freedom Hall, and you would hear the argument that was made back then when the state tourney went to Lexington after the long run it was in Louisville. I remember people were complaining because Lexington didnt have the hotels surrounding the KFEC like Louisville did, so everyone wasnt staying in the same place. People got used to it, and it didnt take long for Rupp Arena to become "the place".

 

Back to the topic- I went to numerous 10th regional tournaments during my childhood and teen years at the Fieldhouse, and went to last year's first round and finals at NKU (missed the Montgomery Co edition), and the atmopshere was better at Mason. But, I also dont see anything wrong with spreading it around every now and then, either. I think the tourney experience would improve over time at the BOKC as well.

The 10th Region Tournament was played at the BOKC last year because we could. It was the 37th District's turn to host, the BOKC was brand new, and we didn't have to travel to get there.

 

I've said it befoe and will say it again - The BOKC isn't high school and sure as haites isn't the 10th Region. The Fieldhouse is the 10th Region regardless of having "to park in the mud," eat bad popcorn, sit cheek to cheek on wood bleachers, and give the Royals the home court advantage. Maybe that's the charm of it. It was great to be back at the Fieldhouse even though we got beaten by the "home" team. We sure did better there than we did playing the Royals at the 94 foot BOKC last spring.

 

The man saying this is well respected in the basketball scene and is one of your own. A ninth region, Northern Ky, person who says the Fieldhouse is better. Is he biased and a homer like Mason's fans which is is not one? Why don't people believe Mustang?:idunno::idunno::idunno:

I think the Fieldhouse is the best in what I value, but different people have different opinions as to what they value and the BOK is obviously an excellent venue for lots of reasons. I say alternate between the Fieldhouse and the BOK. Montgomery is too small in my opinion.

I have a solution to this problem. This is supposed to be all about the kids and yet all I keep hearing is opinions from us 'older' folks. We've had our high school days - and in my case they are long gone (but good memories). I say let the kids decide where they want their regional tournament held. When it is your districts turn to host, give each district school 10 votes (IE: 10 kids on each school's team gets to vote). Give them 4 gyms to choose from - making sure that each choice can actually handle the event. Majority wins. Regional tournament held where the KIDS want it!

BOK gets anyone who wants to come see a good game a chance. Lets face it, there's many who will not or can not attend a game where you have to be there 60 minutes before the game to get a decent seat. High school gyms are great don't get me wrong, but half the fun of getting to the Region is playing in a great facility. Ask the kids.

I would consider Mustang a 10th Region Northern Ky person.

He is great supporter and promoter of the 10th region. Not to mention being a 10th Region Hall of Famer.

But the 10th Region has way to good of basketball to play 2nd fiddle to the 9th,And we all know thats what it was last year..

I liked the back and forth of the student sections last night. The Darius Miller chant and pointing at him as he walked by was pretty funny. A little late but here's another bench shot. Hard to tell but you could barely walk through between the chairs and the students.
