Waking Up Early

Featured Replies

Weekdays 5 am, weekends 7 to 7:30. Take a 20 minute nap early evenings and go to bed 10 to 10:30, depending on what I'm working on or if the UK game is close.

I am up every workday at 5 a.m. and at work by 6 a.m., on weekends I am up by 7 a.m. on weekends. If I am off during the week I still get up and go to the gym for my swimming workout. I have been an early riser since I was in the Marine Corps. If I get up late it is because I am sick and don't feel good. I get more done at work from 6:00 a.m. to 8: 00 a.m. when no one is in to bother you. JD

I used to always get up around 9. Even now, if I sleep in late, I feel like I am wasting my day. Naps feel good, but I feel like I am wasting valuable hours doing probably nothing.

That said, for some reason now, I can't get up until about 11. I hate that, but it's the way it happens.

When I go back off this coming fall for college, I'm sure I'll be back on a good routine.

I have classes and work early in the mornings on the weekdays, so that means that I can't sleep in at all. I usually don't sleep past 9:30 on the weekends though.

The more sleep I get, the better. I'm not ashamed to admit that.

My Grandpa may not have got in bed before midnight but he would pretty much be asleep in his rocking chair by 8pm. He got up around 5am most mornings, if he slept till 7am, he considered that sleeping in.

My parents woke up earlier than I did my entire life, even if they had nothing to do that day.

As it stands, if I wake up around noon, I consider it a good day. My parents and grandparents say if they aren't up early they feel useless.

Is this an older generation thing ? Or will we young people eventually start going to bed early and waking up early for no reason ?

This will change with age and having kids.

When you get older, you'll realize that the real world starts much, much earlier than you had ever hoped.

And with a first shift job.

I'm retired but I get up everymorning at 4:00am feed the cats then wait for my wife to wake up so I cam take her to work at 6:00am .

From November through July I'm on my "basketball schedule" which means I'm working past midnight 4-6 nights a week and don't fall asleep until 2 or 3. In that time period I usually wake up around 9 and watch the last hour of Mike and Mike from bed before I get going for the day. The other 3 months I'm in bed an hour or two earlier and up around 8. It's going to be brutal once the baby gets here, but at least I'll be out of the basketball portion when it's born...

I generally get up around 5:45. Some times, like this morning, I workout before work, in which case I get up around 4:45. On Saturday's I rarely sleep in because that is my long run day. I normally get up around 5:30-5:45. My sleep in day is Sunday. That is never any later than 7.

Go to bed at 11:30pm and get up at 4:30am 6 days a week. I sleep till I wake up on the 7th day. Usually 8ish.

So true. I remember in my college days thinking I was an adult, though on weekends I could easily sleep til noon. I thought that making it to an 8 a.m. class was very responsible.

Life has a way of changing that. Dont worry MBWC, it is a natural progression of life.

Now that my children are older I WISH I could sleep til noon, because some Saturdays I have the time. Still, sleeping till 8 is late. If I wake up at 9 I think I must be sick! :idunno:
