Who Decided Fish Wasn't "Meat"?

Featured Replies

Maybe I'm the only one, but I always tend to start craving chicken or steak on Friday's during Lent. Seems like knowing I can't eat it, only makes me want it that much more. :lol:

I totally agree! :lol::lol:

For the record I don't like this rule. :lol::lol:

Funny but I don't have to follow the rule anymore but I do like fish and my heart doctor wants me to eat the stuff so......

Maybe you should bring it up with the pope, next time you guys get a chance to chat.

That has to be rough man. Lent is a time when I'm glad that I'm not Catholic. I like the idea, but I know how hard it would be for me. I know it's hard for BSpikes, the crew we hang out with on Fridays (and the rest of the weekend) always want to go eat somewhere. I do respect him for it though, he and the other Catholics I know are a whole lot more strong minded than I am. :thumb:

I've been told by Catholics that the reason fish is allowed is because Catholics controlled the meat industry and they wanted it to stay profitable so fish would not be considered meat.

Never heard that one before.

That's also how they got the Wonder Bread account. :lol:

On the flip side, I always feel guilty because I really look forward to Lent. LOVE the excuse to eat fish on Fridays, and a Catholic fish fry is just about the best Friday night around!

I never understood why the competition didn't try Lenten Protestant barbecues to garner some market share.

Thought you couldn't eat fish.

I agree. My whole family meets at a different fish fry each Friday - we even jokingly call Lent "Fish Fry Season".

Fish Fry Tour 2010 is in full effect! My friends and I do the same thing. Visit a few throughout the year and go back to our favorite on the last week of lent to wrap it up. We look forward to the Fish Fry tour!

Was talking about this with a friend of mine today. He said in addition to the preferential option for the poor, another reason is, in the covenant with Abraham, all other types of animal were sacrificed, but not fish.
