Shouldn't they be getting more proven guys though than Jones? Jones is the kind of pickup that someone like the Patriots might make on the side. He may end up being a great fit in Cincy (in more ways that one :lol:) but I just don't see how a team in Cincy's position thinks that it is that much of a step forward. JMO.

You got to remember the same thing was being said about Benson when he came here. Benson really never showed his true talent when he was with the Bears, and definitely didn't look as good as he has here. That ended up working great. With Jones we are not even counting on him to be a #1 either, we are just counting on him to be a potential #3 or 4. Jones has the talent, so it is worth the shot. Especially since they got him for cheap.

But Benson was a very highly though of back when he was coming into the league. Jones was a high pick, but it was based off his size and athleticism, not off being a great WR as we all know he played QB in college. Benson had underachieved in Chicago, but at least there was a consensus at one time that he was a very good to elite RB.

 

Not a bad move if Jones didn't have the baggage and had proven something on the field over the course of a few seasons.

There is little risk with the Jones move. I highly doubt they are expecting him to cure anything. He has the chance to be a pretty good possession receiver though, something that certainly can't hurt.

Its the beginning of the off season, and its a good move to begin the off season. You act like that this is all that is going to happen, and everything else will stay the same now. The Bengals still could actually trade for Marshall, or the Bengals could end up signing TO. Either definitely would help out the passing problems some. Then you also have the draft, and if they sign TO they if they want they could use that first pick on a TE.

I get where you're coming from man, but I think being a Bengals fan has tainted your vision of their reality. They are too cheap to get Marshall. If that happens, and you're ever in the Morehead area let me know and I'll treat you to some BDubs.

 

TO is who they will get. It will improve their passing game, but not by that much. If they go TE they will take Hernandez IMO, but I think OU's TE Gresham would be the better pickup for their style of offense.

 

It's just a cycle of moves that would have been great 3 or 4 years ago but really don't make that much difference. Sure guys like Benson are an exception, but Coles, Jones, and possibly Pacman & TO seem like more of the norm from the Bengals IMO.:thumb:

I agree. Low risk, probably low reward. If he becomes a 3rd option out wide call it a great success.:thumb: I'm not saying it's horrible. I just know that people are going to expect another season of improvement from the Bengals. If they don't continue to make moves, I think the could easily fall back to 3rd in the division.

Now that I do agree with. See if this is the only thing they plan on doing at receiver to help out the passing game, then I am definitely not fine with it. However I do believe they will do other things, that is why I think its a good move. He is someone that could maybe help out as a 3rd or 4th receiver and could be a down field threat they are missing and if anything just a big target for Palmer. Its a move that is worth taking IMO, and that is all I am trying to say. They do need to continue to look to improve at WR, and I think they should get TO because you are probably right they won't really try for Marshall. If they also get TO, and then have the draft coming up as well. Then I think the Bengals really will have improved the passing game very much.

Well there is simply no risk minus an arrest. 1 year at 700K is peanuts. Coles made 7 million last year completely robbing the organization.

I don't have a problem with the move, he actually had a pretty solid 2008 season. I don't think they are done adding to the Wr position.

Jones has never been one to "stretch the field." He is a possession-type WR whose best route has been a short slant. It'll be interesting to see what the Bengals do the address their needs for a burner WR, as they currently have none.
