That has already been established. It's tough to move up in the rankings when almost half of your conference puts together a top 10 class on (almost) an annual basis.

 

For example, the SEC has 7 schools in the top 18. The Big East's highest rated school is West Virginia, at #19. Granted, part of that could be attributed to the fact that some of the lesser recruits get more notoriety because of where they commit, but still...

 

Kentucky would have the 3rd best recruiting class in the Big East. If Pittsburgh leaves, Kentucky would have the 2nd best recruiting class in the Big East.

I have been very impressed with what Joker Phillips has done in his short time as head coach!

You MUST have good players to win, recruiting is still a hit or miss though. Freshman are finding out they can to a major school and play early.

 

We lost two kids that we really wanted, but over all we are real pleased. All of our kids had signed their LOI by 2PM.

Kentucky is 11th in the SEC in both polls. Gotta have some upward movement if they ever want more than a 7 or 8 win season. No reason UK can't beat out Mississippi State and Arkansas.

Mississippi State signed 5, 4 star recruits and 8, 3 star recruits from their home state. UK and UL combined to sign 7 instate kids all 3 star recruits.

Mississippi State signed 26 players. 19 of those 26 were from Mississippi, including all 5 of their 4 star recruits.

 

They had 14 3 star recruits, 10 of which are from Mississippi.

Arkansas had 3 4 star recruits, only 1 of which was from Arkansas.

 

In fact, Arkansas only has 5 recruits from Arkansas. 2 2-stars, 2 3-stars and a 4 star.

Kentucky actually has the lowest "average star rating per recruit" at 2.77. Vandy, although their recruiting class is not ranked as highly, has a slightly higher average rating per recruit.

 

This could be due to the fact that Kentucky brought in 7 2 star recruits & only 1 4-star (Alex Smith).

 

Vandy brought in 6 2-star recruits & 1 4-star.

In regards to UK being blow eligible every year, and winning 6-7 games, yes they are making progress. In regards to moving out of the basement in the SEC, clearly no.

That is a good start for Coach Strong and once he gets his footing established, I think you will see the Cardinal's rating move up the list.

I don't put much into these rankings myself. But Scout actually has UofL one spot ahead of UK. UofL 46 and UK 47.

 

I think both new coaches did a good job recruiting this season. Strong really propelled UofL's lackluster class. Looks like Rivals and Scout have both classes right there by each other. Joker really helped UK's class late too.
