February 4, 201016 yr Yes I realize, I live in Mississippi. But if you want to move upwards you are going to have to out recruit those teams. Mississippi State's class was far from impressive this year. Arkansas produces very little talent as a state, and their best players this years didn't go to Arkansas, so UK has no excuse for not passing them. UK has 4 straight bowl games to sell recruits MSU has been to 1 bowl game in the past 4 years. Arkansas finished at 48 and UK at 49 per rivals. So really not much difference at all.
February 4, 201016 yr I don't put much into these rankings myself. But Scout actually has UofL one spot ahead of UK. UofL 46 and UK 47. I think both new coaches did a good job recruiting this season. Strong really propelled UofL's lackluster class. Looks like Rivals and Scout have both classes right there by each other. Joker really helped UK's class late too. :thumb: True.

I don't think UK should go after the very, very top recruits because they are just going to be disappointed when that recruit chooses USC, or OSU or Texas. I do think they need to go after high recruits though because being in the SEC they can not afford to keep holding out hope that the 1 1/2 star recruit they signed will develop into a better player. Instead they should try to build with higher profiled players. I think UK does an excellent job in developing players to play in the SEC and I don't think they should stray away from that completely but I do think they need to work on recruiting higher players.

Notable gets: RB Brandon Gainer TE Alex Smith RB Miles Simpson LB Tim Patterson I was really hoping UK could like DT Mike Thornton but he ended up committing to UGA. No just another typical year for UK. If they ever expect to climb out of the SEC basement they are going to have to do better then 48.

I would start by trying to replace as many 2 stars from this years class with 3 stars in next years class. If every year you make it a goal to have 1 less 2 star and 1 more 3 star. They'll start turning the corner in recruiting. How you do this? I have no idea. But they need to be getting more 3 and 4 stars to develop if they ever have a hope of catching UF. UGA, and UT. You have to beat all 3 to win the East.

The key for UK is to get guys who have SEC speed, and redshirt them allowing them to grow. If UK can consistently have a team that starts alot of SRs and JRs that are fast enough to play in the SEC they will continue to get better. Boise State wins with 2 and 3 stars. Virginia Tech is usually no where to be found in the top 10 of the recruiting rankings. It's about getting quick guys who fit the system and developing them. UK recruits what they need now IMO to continue to improve, and they few 4 stars they pick up are gravy.

Say or think what you want, UK is never going to consistantly slug it out with the USCs, Ohio States, Floridas, Texas etc. for the number one college football recruiting class. By the same token, the USCs, Ohio States, Floridas, Texas, etc. are not going to consistantly slug it out for the number one college basketball recruiting class.

They have 0 recruits rated lower than 3 star. ZERO. Last year Va Tech was #23. In '08 Va Tech was ranked #18. They're not "top 10", but let's not act like they struggle to recruit talent.

Va Tech is ranked there but they never really crack higher than 18 or so and still do pretty well. VT is what I think UK could become in the future, recruiting rankings wise. Of course they recruit better than UK, they have a better program. I'm sorry but if you think UK should be doing better than they are star wise I can't help you much. It's UK. Sure they're an SEC program, but a bottom-feeding one traditionally. Watch a game at UK and then watch one at most of the other SEC schools, it's just not the same crowd wise. Like I said at the moment, UK doesn't have enough to offer to get better players. They go to bowls, but it's not like they're winning 10-11 games a season. This is a good class, and it's about the best UK can do right now.
February 5, 201016 yr Also, for the most part you have to take rankings with a grain of salt. Next season watch UF. They will get a commit from a guy that's a 3 star and a week or so later he gets another star added on. It caters to the better and bigger teams. Obviously UF gets higher regarded prospects, but at UK if they get a player who is an early commit he's not going to get the respect they deserve IMO if they are better than their ranking. Star rankings just seem to be who you're being pursued by or who you commit to. The rankings also seem to change before signing day, so more people buy subscriptions. It's a business, they want to make money. Either you trust the coaches evaluations or you don't. To me it seems like UK got some solid, SEC type players. Maybe they didn't get a Ronald Powell or Seantrel Henderson, but they're never going to get those kids.
February 5, 201016 yr I hope we don't consider this a turn the corner class. It finished 11th in the SEC. Turning the corner to me would be top 6 maybe.
