February 2, 201016 yr From a rivalry standpoint, I'd love to have UCF join the conference. Not so much from a recruiting one. I don't think the Big 3 want them in a BCS conference, either.

So here's what I would suggest, tell 'Nova to move up to D-1, tell ND get in our get out either they play FB in the BE if not, basketball is out of the BE. Send invites to Marshall, ECU, Memphis, Central Michigan, or another MAC team. I think every league that is in the BCS should have to have a league championship game or lose their automatic bid. Losing Pitt to the Big 10 would not be all that big of a deal, however, I don't see them going because of basketball. Edited February 2, 201016 yr by Big East Zebra clarification
February 2, 201016 yr Did the ACC lose their automatic BCS bid? Miami has a hard enough time paying for trips to teams in the ACC let alone having to go even farther to play in the Big East again. Why would anyone want to leave another BCS conference for the Big East? It's a garbage football conference if Pitt leaves and a death trap of a basketball conference. Maybe a garbage conference, but a garbage conference with an automatic bid to the BCS, which equals more money for the University if/when you win the big east and get to that BCS Bowl game.

If the Big East included Marshall, ECU, Memphis and CMU they should lose their automatic qualifying spot in the BCS to the MWC. What a joke. Beating Marshall and CMU gets you to the Orange Bowl? Who is going to take a conference seriously that has headliners of WVU, Cincy, and U of L? Nothing against those schools but football wise it just seems like the old Conference USA. I see your point, but my point I was trying to make was for a conference to have an automatic bid to the BCS they need to have a conference championship, the BE needs to add 4 schools to do so. The Big Ten needs to add one, the PAC 10 needs to add one, the MWC would need to add 3. The WAC would need to add 3. I forgot you could add Army or Navy and that would elimnate two of the previous teams I mentioned.

Largest in the Southeast and 3rd largest in the nation since UF and USF tightened their entrance requirements and started taking fewer students. The UCF student body totals up at somewhere over 50k. In fact, the Orlando Sentinel ran an article during football season about how UCF would take anybody.

Its a good basketball choice and one would think that football would improve by moving to a better conference (making recruiting a little easier). There just really is a lack of quality options that posses both good programs and good media markets. Memphis is about the last remaining outpost not in the BCS.

And while Memphis St. is currently on a downtick in football, it's not like they're a traditional dreg. They've scored more than a couple wins over Tennessee and other SEC schools over the years. If anything, getting them into a better conference situation should help stabilize their recruiting, and the entire program as a result.
