You don't see the flaws in that logic??? I think it makes total sense. To have a chance to play for the big money you need to have a true conference champion. To have a true conference champion you need to have a championship game. The Big East could add Navy, Army, have Nova and G-town step their programs up, and then add ECU. The Big Ten would have to add 1. Pac 10 one as well. Then you tell ND get in a conference or no BCS bid. I see no flaws in that logic!
February 4, 201016 yr The "college football world" looks at Pitt as one of the better programs in the Big East. Why? For the simple fact they had a lot of success decades ago. Do you honestly dispute that? Would losing Pitt hurt? In the short term, sure. They are an average program with a simply horrible in game coach. He has shown it to be true time and time again. The best part is he is there for as long as he wants. If Memphis, UCF or ECU fill that spot there would be a substantial recruiting boost much like there has been at UC, USF, UConn and UL is now back in the picture. The fact is the Big East has been worthy of being a BCS league in the 5 years since the departures to the ACC, and if Pitt left they would again keep the momentum going. And Pitt would never win a Big 11 title, so that would be funny as well...
February 4, 201016 yr The Big East was put together to be the best basketball conference in America. And it is. Losing Pitt in football would be a big blow. They are a "national" program. The conference can't really add anyone because of its basketball situation. The one thing that would help more than anything is if Notre Dame would ever join in football. The state of the economy may force NBC to dropp ND as some point, then it could get interesting. At the end of the day, the Big East has faired better than the ACC (in BCS games) since the split. There's no disputing that. And without the help of Pitt who hasn't been to a BCS game since the split. Really haven't even been a factor until this year. What's the ACC won, one BCS game?

Pitt and UC still only played 12 regular season games. Moving your last game of the year to that week isn't quite the same as having a conference championship game is it? The ACC has one that draws about 50 people. Big deal. If the Big 11 steals Pitt to go that route, so be it. The Big East will add a program capable of replacing them and be just fine...

Please make the football stop! An extra great match-up for the fans... more money for the conferences and schools... man this is such a problem! February 4, 201016 yr I don't really care since the only window that counts for THIS league is 5 years. Pitt is an average football program that hasn't seen real success in 20 years. The fact that they have recruited the "best" over the last 5 years and still don't have a title should give you a hint... West Virginia is the best program in the Big East. The rest are a bunch of average programs. I think losing Pitt would hurt, but it's not the end of the world. To pretend that Memphis or another program would step in and pick up where Pitt left off is foolish. Pitt has had 2 solid years (10-3 & 9-4) but was very, very average prior to that. Basically West Virginia is a solid program and the rest are a bunch of programs on the rise who are not there just yet. As someone stated previously, the Big East was designed to be the nation's best / deepest basketball program.
