My thoughts are I dont really like the title of your thread. Toyota quality is unsurpasssed and definately is better than any of the big 3. I have owned Ford,Chevy, and Toyota and its not even up for discussion how they compare. Toyota blows the competition away by far.....

If you have read anything on this, the claims of the accelerator sticking could not be re created.

Toyota is taking a very strong stance on this and it is evident by closing the plants. Most would just issue a recall and continue building vehicles.

That Toyota plant in G-town has done a lot of good for my family too.

2 buddies bought the new Tundra..........they both drive F150's now. Looks wise they are ok, gas mileage, power and durability wise its no comparison to Ford or GM.

That's not true.

Both are my vehicles are Hondas. The 98 car I sold to my brother in law when I got my new Accord was a Honda. I'll never buy anything else but a Honda.

Ford Motor Company has a lot of momentum and there quality is something all americans and especially Kentuckians ought to be proud of. This problem with Toyota has supposedly come from lawsuits in Japan where a couple of wrecks have resulted in the death of a few. The part is supposedly made in Indiana. Toyota & the MFG can't figure out the cause as of now.

Toyota quality has slipped since they started manufacturing cars in the US. There's no question about that. They're using less quality parts as they're cheaper. However, the way they've handled some of these situations, you have to give them some credit. Toyota, IMO, went above and beyond with their Tacoma buy back program. They are giving owners of Tacomas with rusted frames 150% of the KBB, excellent value.

 

Now, I'm a Toyota guy. I have 3 sitting in my driveway, and I'm looking to replace one with another (anybody know someone selling a Sienna, let me know ). This latest issue isn't going to turn me away from owning more. For reliability, styling, and price, they are still tops for me. I also don't mind Honda, but IMO, they tend to be a little too pricey. Ford seems to be doing all the right things, so time will tell with them.

A gentlemen in the auto business told me a couple years back about the lawsuits. I just never really thought alot about it till all this has hit the fan.

In the real world of towing and driving, not paper comparisons, Chevy and Ford both get better gas mileage, the Tundra get close to 10, while both domestics get around 16.

 

Both domestics HP is down in peak numbers but their HP and TQ are in more usable rpm's.

 

Consumer reports has them ranked within 1 point of each other, both guys I know had serious issues with the 4wd system and transmissions.

Because Ford employs just as many, if not more, Kentuckians than Toyota! They just don't blast it on commercials constantly...........

I'm not talking about paper comparisons. It's funny you bring up Consumer Reports because that is where I am getting this info. When they did their test the Tundra got the best overall avg fuel economy at 15. All models only got 10 in the city but the Tundra got 20 on the hwy with the others only getting 19. The Tundra is the fastest and is the second heaviest. It's rated at more HP then the Ford or GM and has a higher towing capacity then all the big 3. For you to say the Tundra doesn't compare to the others is flat wrong.

All cars do that, you get a lemon every now and then, but I'd be willing to bet less than 25% do regular maintenance............on any car.

 

Well I guess you can count me in the 25% that takes their car to be serviced for regular maintenance. We had a new Chevrolet that was a lemon from the start. Also had trouble with our new Taurus. We just got tired of buying new and having trouble while the car is still under warranty. Honda or Toyota are the only products we will purchase on a new vehicle anymore. The difference in the service departments are also a huge. We took my Mom's 1994 Chevy to get a new drivers seat and also to price a new gas cover to a Chevy dealer and they treated us like we were crazy to even try to have this work completed. Her car looks like it came off the show room floor because she keeps it in her garage. It only has 100K miles.
