Why should Kentuckians be proud of Ford quality?

 

Ford and several companies who supply it are VITAL to the Louisville area economy. They have 2 plants here in Louisville, and they have made a huge committment in this community in terms of saving jobs. Many communities with only 1 plant saw their plants closed, yet Ford chose to keep and re-tool both plants in Louisville to adapt to changing environmental and consumer demands. Kentuckians all benefit from this by benefiting from the tax revenues generated by (at the very least) the spending these still-employed individuals can do. Granted, overall jobs were lost, but it was far less catastrophic than losing one or both of the plants in Louisville. In the end, it was like amputating a leg to save a life.

JD Powers recently released their quality survey which showed Toyota and Ford tied when it came to problems in the first 3 months of ownership. Cadillac finished ahead of both of them as did Hyundai.

 

IMO the gap is shrinking and Toyota is still living off of its past reputation(which was well earned).

 

From a non-quality perspective I find Toyotas to be about as bland as cars can be from a design standpoint. They've regressed in that area.

 

I agree, it's all about perception. I have actually had Toyota owners brag to me about a laundry list of problems with their cars by prefixing it with "all I've ever had to do to it is:"

 

I've many times heard owners of domestic brands complain of half that list and say they will never domestic again.

Ford Motor Company has a lot of momentum and there quality is something all americans and especially Kentuckians ought to be proud of. This problem with Toyota has supposedly come from lawsuits in Japan where a couple of wrecks have resulted in the death of a few. The part is supposedly made in Indiana. Toyota & the MFG can't figure out the cause as of now.

It's funny that Toyota is going to blame this problem on a US factory. GM,Ford, and Chrysler are outsourcing their work to Mexico to get cheaper labor and better quailty. Maybe the big 3 need to bring back some of this work to make a better product. It seems to be working for Toyota.

I have a 2000 Silverado 4x4 with 210,000 miles. Just replaced the original front brakes at 204,000 and had a fuel pump put on at 180,000 miles. Replaced back brakes twice and replaced battery. Not to bad for a American made truck.

Wasn't there also a wreck in California where a guy called 911 and told the police what was going on? He along with everyone else was killed.

 

 

Yes. The guy was driving a Lexus. It was a rental from the dealership, and it didn't have any floor mats. The sales guy grabbed a set of all weather mats from a different Lexus and put them in the car. The mat was not made for that specific car, thus causing the pedal to get wedged between the floor and mat.

I do a lot of highway driving. Bill at Bob Sumerall tire and service does all my maintenance and said this has to be a record.

Unfortunately the reason for the outsourcing is cheaper labor with no unions. Its a global economy and those factors have to be taken into consideration. Toyota is a strong company and will recover but this situation really hurts there brand.

My 2009 Ford Focus has a drivers floor mat that has a hook that keeps it from moving at all. The floormat won't lay flat if the it isn't inserted over the hook. Once in place, the hook lies flush with the floormat.

 

I love my Ford. It's my first one, but I would certainly buy another. Their quality has steadily increased in recent years.

Pretty much all cars have that hook now, which is nice. However, the Lexus in the accident had one, but the mat placed in the car was not made for it. Therefore, the hook couldn't hold it in place.

If I'm not mistaken, Toyota got nailed for it, not the salesman. I think that's what led to the shorter pedals being installed with their last recall.

As far as trucks go I like the new Tundra better then any if the big 3. But car wise I love the looks of the malibu, camry, and fusion.

I test drove Tundras when looking for a pick-up. Went with a Silverado. Love that vehicle.

 

I've been test driving cars of late. Of the Fusion, Malibu, Camry, Sonata, and Accord, I like the Accord the best. The Malibu drives well, but is hard to get in an out of. The Fusion lacks leg room.

 

I want a bigger car. I like the Ford Taurus. I also like the Chevy Impala. I don't like the ride of the Toyota Avalon, not for that price tag anyway. I really like the new Buick LaCrosse, but it is still too small. And I really do not like the price tags on any of them. Inside, they all look plastic and cheap.

 

My old 99 Le Sabre, with the 3.8L 6, still gets 20/30, rides like a dream, and runs like a champ. I've found nothing out there that gives me any reason to replace it.

 

My Subaru finally bit the big one. She's 15 years old, so it's about time. Don't need 3 vehicles anymore, anyway.

I have a Toyota and two chevys. Least expensive to drive and maintain , Toyota. Best ride, Chevy. The Impala is probably the best car for the money today ! Sticking gas pedal is nothing new to the auto industry. A simple cure would be to install emergency engine shutoff on new vehicles . There have always been vehicles that had engine fires, sticking throttles . etc. An emergency shutoff could cut the power to the engine and the electric fuel pump and would have saved hundreds of lives over the years.
