I feel bad for Saul on many levels. It was not his fault his dad offered the kid a scholarship. He always gave 100% effort, had a great attitude, and represented the school well, he was just put in a very difficult situation. I cannot hate on Saul.

 

I'd like to but the guy got a free ride at the University of Kentucky, and now it looks like Daddy is setting him up with a coaching job when chooses to retire. How could anyone feel bad for him?

I actually liked Saul Smith, I thought he would be a great back up pg. He was just so fundamentally sound. Not the best pg in the world but not the worst.

Why don't anyone like Chris Lofton?

Saul Smith is one of the hardest working point gaurds I've ever seen. UK wouldn't have won a title in 98 without a back up point gaurd, which was Saul Smith.

 

Yeah, right when he fouled that 3 point shooter in a crucial part of that Stanford Final 4 Game. :lol:

 

I'm no Saul Smith hater but to think UK wouldn't have won the NCAA that year without him is as big a reach as saying they wouldn't won if I hadn't been watching the game in my lucky chair. :thumb:

 

BTW, For the Record, here is Saul's support in the final 4 games of the tourney that year:

Bernie I grew to like more in his NBA days and have mellowed on him. Grunfeld to me was like a 6' 4" version of Bill Laimbeer.

I feel bad for Saul on many levels. I do not feel sorry for his current situation or who is father is, but that is not his fault nor does it legitimize being able to treat him like a pinata. I just think Saul endured a lot of undue criticism while at UK. When Tubby handed him the keys to a vehicle he could not operate in his Junior year, what was he supposed to do? Say, "thanks but no thanks"?
