Wow, St. X wins the largest division of KY state football with only one All State player and a junior who makes honorable mention? Trinity is runner up in the 6A division without a player being recognized as an All State player? I thought , according to a lot of the public posters, that these two schools have the best athletes from Jefferson and surrounding counties? Evidently, in reality these two schools and their coaches are doing more with less than a lot of the ones that have 5 and 6 All State players on their squads. X was undefeated in the State of KY this year. Coach Glaser should be Coach of the Year for what he did and Coach Beatty did a great job without an Allstate player on his team. Congratulations to both these teams for all the overacheiving!

Personally, I think both "sides" are undermining themselves in this thread. If the big private schools want to point to the fact that they rarely have the best talent when defending the allegation that they get the best players in the region, then they can't complain when more of their players aren't named to the all state teams. Likewise, the big private school detractors and critics can't say that the all state teams are correct when they don't have many big private school players on the all state teams and then allege that the big privates get all the best players from their region. At least that's how I see it.

The 2 6A finalists had a grand total of 2 players(X had Sears 1st team and Beach Honorable Mention). Runners-up Trinity and DeSales each had 0. Maybe that's just the way the cookies crumbled this year. Or maybe there is just a little anit-Jefferson County bias amongst the voters? Let's look at one example--Bell County High School(neither a champion or runner up) places 6 kids as All-Staters while ALL of Jefferson County(24 high schools, including the 6A champion, 6A runner up and 2A runnner up) placed a grand total of 7. Bias...nahhh.

 

This is another example of what I have said. It is way too political. There are deserving kids who suffer and that's a shame.

Maybe the AP member outlets in Louisville -- of which there are about a half-dozen, if not more -- should do a better job of nominating the kids from their area. As Ky Buckeye said, you can't really expect the sports department of the paper in Somerset or Middlesboro to be responsible for making sure kids they never see play get nominated.

I honestly think that some of the Bell players were overlooked last year, especially the OL and DL line. Perhaps that body of work, including a championship and another great year made them more noticed this year.

There are AP outlets all over the state to make nominations. As Jim Schue mentioned, why should it be up to me or somebody in Somerset or Middlesboro to make sure they nominate the Jefferson County kids just in case all their outlets dropped the ball? I nominate every kid from my area who I think may even be close to consideration, and it's up to everybody else to do the same. Again, we're talking nominations here, not the final vote.

 

I absolutely do every bit of statewide research I can when making selections on the final ballot, and I'd like to think most others do too. However, it's up to the players' local outlets to get them on that ballot to begin with. You can't expect some writer in the mountains to nominate 20 Louisville kids they've never seen just on the off chance the several members in Lousiville all fail to hold up their end of the deal.

Sorry, but there's no bias there. As I said in the first post, it's all about a nomination process that fails a lot of kids if everybody doesn't pull their weight. I'll come right out and say there clearly weren't enough Louisville kids nominated to be on the ballot. I absolutely would have voted for more if they were. I doubt I'm the only one.

 

I'm not going to go into much more detail, but because I'm still able to go back and log in to the voting page, here's an example. Because they were mentioned in the thread, I looked it up and there were only two St. X players and none from Trinity on the ballot at all. I don't have time to go do a breakdown by school, but a quick glance shows that there weren't many more Louisville kids period.

 

Maybe a bunch of Louisville area outlets didn't nominate anybody. Maybe they all happened to nominate the same handful of kids. But contrary to what people may think, there aren't a bunch of voters sitting around the state saying "Hey, I'm really going to stick it to those Louisville schools."
