That Dominque Haydens class A team won the state title in dominating fashion.

Bellevue won 9 games, but only 1 of those 9 wins came against a team with a winning record.

 

Never said they didn't? Actually said Hayden was very deserving. Class A competition is what it is. It is hard to compare schedules from two parts of the state. Every one from NKY is going to say we play better football, everyone from Western KY is going to say they play better football, ect. Hence their records maybe weren't as good due to them playing better competition. IDK we could argue that all day.

I'm sure Buckler is a really good player and is deserving. But as has been stated, these threads crop up every year with people complaining about who didn't make it. People will complain about the Courier-Journal allstate team and believe it or not...people will complain about the Bluegrass Preps team.

He played six games at QB and just because he got hurt does this make him any less of a player. Your right it's not hard to shoot back either. Look at his stats if your into that. Every 8 times he touched the ball he scored. Six passing TD's, 10 rushing td's, 1 receiving TD and 2 kick-off returns. Take the passing attemps away and every 6 times he touched the ball he scored.

The kid only missed two games after injuring his elbow and came back to play another position. Most kids would have packed it in for the year but he wanted to help his team wherever they needed him.

 

I would nominate Bardolini in as first team - Athlete. PERIOD! He has meant that much to the team... QB, Kick-off Return Man, etc. etc.

 

Seriously, there are a ton of individual player recognition awards out there... but the one that mean's the most to a player is the Gold Ring wrapped around the finger. The same ring his fellow teammates worked so hard to get from the last game of last season to the final whistle in the State Championship game. What better recognition could a player receive?

 

Besides... I do not know a collegiate recruiter that spends an ounce of energy reviewing the individual awards as the deciding factor in getting the offer.

I think the thread title alone spoils the celebration for the young men that made the AP List.

 

Using the rationale that AP is a joke for excluding certain players with quality statistics, then it obviously must be a joke for including the ones that are on it.

 

It's been said in the thread already, but everyone can't get a trophy, the voters/writers did their very best and came out with a good list of well-qualified young men.

All you can do is work hard and keep trying to be the best and be able to get by with the satisfaction of knowing that you gave it 100%. Life lesson for some of these boys. Sure its not fair, but life isn't fair.

But what can be done about it at this point? I think your original point was Buckler should have been recognized. I agree with you he was a great player for Bellevue and was recognized by a lot of different people. I think he is deserving of any recognition that he can get. By saying 'AP what a JOKE' for excluding the player (with fantastic stats) that you brought up, what is it saying about those players that 'AP what a JOKE' included?

 

It's my humble (but highly accurate) - - opinion that discrediting the people that came up with the list is pretty near to discrediting those that are on the list. If AP is such a joke that they didn't list your player.....get it?

Being an "A" guy myself I think that the kids who play on this level get the, "well they played an A schedule" which just isn't fair. But that argument has been going on forever! Like I said, kid was a heck of a player.

Being a fan of the Fort Campbell Falcons.....I know all about regional bias, but I won't go into that here.

 

I understand your dilema and appreciate your attempts at setting the record straight so to speak in regards to Buckler, I just thought that you could have used your words better in the thread title. Maybe saying "Additions to the All-State List by papa22320" then offering other BGP members an invitation to do the same.

I could not agree with Papa more. Ricky Buckler was the leading rusher in the state. The fact that he is not even an honorable mention would make any sensible person question the selection of all state players. There is NO way it can be justified. That is a fact. What a shame for a really deserving young man.

 

The reality is the big "names" (Collinsworth) and the big name "schools" (Highlands) get the attention and the votes. How can a kid who rushed for less than 1,000 yards be second team all state when a kid who rushed for nearly 3,000 yards and over 40 td's does not even get honorable mention?? The other kid has a recognizable name and is from a more well known and successful school, that's why. Is that fair?? NO!

 

Austin Collinsworth is a heck of a player but all state is not supposed to be based upon potential or who your dad is, it is supposed to be on performance.
